Financial Planning and Analysis

Capital & Leverage Management is one of the functional disciplines in Barclays Treasury. This role is within the CaLM group in Americas Treasury, specifically the US team. The team oversees Americas regional capital planning (across Brazil, Canada and Mexico) as well as US activities, primarily Investment Banking and Barclaycard operations.

Overall purpose of role:

  • First point of contact for Legal Entity capital planning queries and initiatives in the Americas.
  • Support of US and regional capital planning process

Key Accountabilities and Skills required:

  • Support US Intermediate Holding Company (IHC) capital planning process including:
  • Coordinating business RWA and leverage forecasts and incorporating into the capital planning model
  • Ensuring model controls are executed
  • Preparing and presenting management updates on IHC capital ratios, RWAs and leverage
  • Developing analysis and MI around CCAR baseline and stressed capital planning projections
  • Coordinating Treasury-driven IHC RWA and leverage optimization initiatives, working in close partnership with businesses, Risk and Finance
  • Support legal entity capital planning through:
  • Review and challenge of capital plan submissions
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for key regulated entity capital plans in the IHC
  • Lead capital optimization initiatives for regulated entities in the IHC such as debt for equity swaps, regulatory capital restacks, and implementation and issuance of regulatory capital instruments
  • Review capital adequacy of unregulated entities within the IHC on a quarterly basis and work with Finance, the Business, and Tax to determine amount of surplus capital in the entities and capacity to support repatriation to the Parent
  • Provide ongoing support to Regional Treasurers, including
  • Assisting with the implementation of capital optimization initiatives in their region
  • Establishing framework for and drafting capital risk management procedures
  • Enhancing controls for managing compliance with regulatory metrics, including Early Warning Indicator and capital risk appetite setting
  • Assist with closing out Audit findings in US and regional entities including preparing documentation, enhancing controls where required, and establishing and seeing remediation actions through to completion
  • Support businesses through:
  • Coordination of capital applications for local business initiatives
  • Advisory role on financial resource implications of movements of capital within the IHC and investments made outside the Barclays group
  • Advisory role on capital and leverage implications of New Product proposals
  • Develop presentations and messaging to inform senior management and other stakeholders of legal entity capital positions and emerging risks

Stakeholder management and leadership:

  • Partner with Finance, Risk and other infrastructure colleagues as well as businesses to understand drivers of legal entity capital utilization and challenge assumptions around optimal allocation.
  • Be seen as first point of contact for Legal Entity controllers, businesses and colleagues across the functions for any queries on legal entity capital planning.

Your Skills and Qualifications will include:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree
  • 2-4 years Capital Management Experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Finance, Risk and/or Treasury, preferably with some focus on Capital Management and preferably the CCAR supervisory process
  • Experience in working in a financial institution
  • Good understanding of Investment Banking businesses and activities; knowledge of credit card business is also desirable.
  • Financial modelling and analysis skills
  • An analytical mindset coupled with the inclination to run and improve a rigorous process
  • Good presentation skills (both with respect to preparing and delivering presentations with a clear, concise message)
  • Team player, with a proven ability to interact at a wide range of levels in and outside their own team
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Flexible and committed with proven ability to perform under pressure
