Financial Analyst, Operations Administration

The financial services office supporting Carnegie Mellon’s work in key areas of human, physical, financial, and technological infrastructure and services for administration. We support the university’s strategic goals by working to allow departments, schools, and colleges to work together to build a strong financial foundation by creating efficiencies, improving policies and processes, and reducing duplication and costs throughout the university. We strive to improve productivity, and continually align business processes and operations to enable faculty, students, and staff to support the mission of the university.

We are looking for a financial analyst to join our team. In this role you will be responsible for the collection, compilation, interpretation and analysis of internal and external financial data in order to support a unified service model that includes Operations, General Counsel, and Finance. You will produce documentation and interpretative reports based on statistical and financial analyses and presenting them to the individual business unit managers. Other responsibilities will include assisting the Director of Finance with financial matters relating to the operations of the office, including:

  • Preparation of budgets and forecasts during financial review
  • Reconciliation of monthly accounting statements to ensure appropriate expenses are incurred
  • Processing accounts payable redistribution and payroll distribution adjustments
  • Preparation of monthly/quarterly financial reports using Oracle, Data Warehouse and Excel
  • Preparation of monthly journal entries
  • Preparation and approval of expense reports, credit card expenses and purchase orders

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or related field required; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • 1-3 years of accounting and office administration experience required, 3-5+ years preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Excel
  • Exposure to Workday and/or Oracle (or similar HR/financial systems) preferred
  • Prior experience in a university environment is preferred
