Financial Analyst

The Finance Analyst will administer financial transactions for the magazine content development teams, with a primary focus on story-related fieldwork. Finance Analyst will assist the Budget Manager in financial reporting, accounting, and analysis, and create analyses and statistical reports to determine appropriate paths for positive financial development.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the preparation and submission of all travel advances, expense reports and reimbursement requests from independent contractors and conduct standard T&E audit per the NGP travel policy ensuring adherence to IRS T&E regulations. Maintain precise documentation for internal and external audit. Track T&E activity and maintain a schedule of submission deadlines to ensure either processing or accrual of all story-related travel costs in advance of publication date. Work closely with contractors and editors to resolve any outstanding account balances. Coordinate with department business managers in pursuing delinquent accounts.
  • Produce and distribute timely financial data to the editorial teams of the magazine groups on a frequent and consistent basis. Review spending with editorial managers monthly. Research general ledger line items as needed, and ensure that editorial costs are coded correctly. Submit charges for reclassification or accrual when necessary.
  • Assist editors in creation of story budgets; regularly review story budget projections with editors and contracts administrators in Filemaker and work with editorial managers to adjust that data based on schedule and/or coverage changes, etc.
  • Reconcile rights clearance and other licensing payments monthly. Act as liaison between editorial teams and corporate finance, global sourcing and other financial groups to ensure editorial teams are aware of and compliant to NGP policies. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


  • Bachelors degree in Finance, Administration, or related field; 3-5 years’ experience managing budgets and financial transactions.
  • Impeccable professional communication skills; foreign language skills a plus.
  • Microsoft Office; strong Excel skills; experience with PeopleSoft, JD Edwards, Coupa, and T&E platforms like Concur and Expensity a plus.
  • Publishing or other media experience a plus. Must have great attention to detail and accuracy. Must be highly organized and discrete.
