Finance Project Controls, Access

Google Fiber provides superfast Internet to homes in 9 metro areas across the U.S. We want to bring Google Fiber to customers even faster, so we’re focused on making deployment more efficient and less intrusive.

In this critical role, you will be partnering closely with Fiber Network Deployment and Operations team helping to manage project schedules, keep to budgets, build out forecasts, define contracts, model risks and opportunities and standardize processes. You will quickly adapt and respond to industry changes as well as internal initiatives, and you will thrive in an ever-changing, fast-growing technical environment. You will be operational savvy and have a ‘get it done’ attitude. You have the ability to make smart, independent decisions and the willingness to manage deliverables across teams/priorities.

The name Google came from “googol,” a mathematical term for the number 1 followed by 100 zeros. And nobody at Google loves big numbers like the Finance team when providing in depth analysis on all manner of strategic decisions across Google products. From developing forward-thinking analysis to generating management reports to scaling our automated financial processes, the Finance organization is an important partner and advisor to the business.

Responsibilities

  • Support specific markets with detailed project scheduling, forecasting and spend management to ensure projects stay on time and within budget
  • Develop insights into both schedule and budget to enable action on opportunities and against risk
  • Partner with metro build team, providing advice and recommendations for build projects based on data
  • Manage external partnerships to provide timely delivery of schedules, payments and other required reporting and act as a liaison between the build team, FP&A and accounting
  • Standardize controls deliverables, like reporting, contract requirements, and system usage; prepare reports and dashboards to provide teams with visibility into performance, with an eye to automation

Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in managing projects that span multiple teams.
  • Experience in Project Controls.
  • Experience creating and maintaining project schedules using project management systems.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Fiber Network Design and Deployment experience.
  • Experience with systems like P6, Ecosys, and Oracle Financials.
  • A reasonable understanding of finance and accounting processes and terminology.
  • Highly analytical, with a track record of being a strong problem solver, capable of translating analysis and insights into actionable business plans.
  • Distinctive problem solving and analysis skills, combined with impeccable business judgment, leadership skills and ability to communicate with a executives and senior management teams.
  • Ability to self-start and self-direct work in an unstructured environment; comfortable dealing with ambiguity and defining the agenda.
