Finance Intern

The Hetrick-Martin Institute (HMI) is a leading professional provider of social support and programming for all at-risk youth, particularly lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or questioning (“LGBTQ”) youth. HMI provides a broad range of vital programming to thousands of youth each year, ranging in age from 13 to 24, from the five boroughs of New York City and the surrounding metropolitan area. HMI has also initiated programming in New Jersey.

Responsibilities:

The Intern at the Hetrick-Martin Institute is responsible for assisting with all the day to day activities of the finance department.

Essential Duties and Tasks:

  • Receive and process check/credit card requests.
  • Ensure that check/credit card requests have proper authorization, are coded, enter in our system and are paid on a timely basis.
  • Enter stipend information into the Fund EZ accounting system.
  • Provide assistance with the monthly accounting closure (Gift Cards, Metro Cards, Petty Cash, Etc.).
  • Assist with gathering backup documents for funders.
  • File various documents and maintain vendor files.
  • Provide support to the finance and program staff.
  • Special assignments as requested.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Currently in school for a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or related field.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of MS Excel and Word.
  • Available to commit 15 hrs/ wk
  • No relocation assistance, must be available to work in NYC office.
