The Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center is recruiting for a File Clerk. TheFile Clerkwill function in Health Information Management sectionin Patient Care Administrative Service. TheFile Clerkduties include:

Scanning, importing, indexing, quality control, and destruction of health and administrative information.

Scanning various documents into imaging software and assuring scanned documents are associated with the correct patient, note, or administrative date in the Computerized Patient Record System.

Reviewing image quality in the Vista Imaging display software.

Reviewing documents for appropriate scanning criteria.

Preparing documents to be scanned.

Indexing documents scanned or imported from other sources using clinical or administrative configuration setup in the imaging software.

Maintaining confidentiality of all records and follows procedures for destroying health information in paper or electronic format.

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm

In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the following requirements within 15 calendar days of the closing date listed on the announcement:

Time in grade: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a General Schedule (GS) grade at any point in the last 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. For a GS-04 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-03 level.

All Title 38 Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) employees must have served in their Excepted Service position for at least 90 days in order to be eligible for a position within the Competitive Service.

In addition to the qualification above you must also have:
General Experience: You mustpossess one year of general experience equivalent to the GS-03 level in the Federal service to qualify for the GS-04. General experience is defined asprogressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to acquire theparticular knowledge and skills needed to performthe duties of the File Clerk. Examples ofgeneral experience include: Reviewing files for accuracy and completeness; maintaining paper or electronic filing or record systems; adding, removing, or retrieving information from paper or electronicfiles or records; categorizing information for filing; searching files, documents or other sources for information; entering data into computer; responding to requests; processing incoming forms, records, or other documents; and operates standard office equipment (i.e. telephone, computer, fax, photocopier etc.).

Education : You must possesstwo years ofeducation above high school. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.

Education and Experience: You must possess a combination of experience and education to qualify at the GS-04 level. This will be computed by firstdetermining the total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; then adding the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for the grade level.

A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Requirements: The physical requirements of this position are mostly sedentary. Work may alsoinvolve walking, standing, and bending. There may be lifting and carrying of records and boxes, usually not to exceed 50 pounds, and the pushing of loaded carts when retiring records.
