ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses malfunctions and effect repairs in the forward and return spectrum in one or more of the following areas: Headend, HFC/fiber optic network, service drop or Home Terminal Units (HTUs).
  • Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and repairs plant performance issues, and resolves all problems from the Headend to the customer-owned equipment by using various electronic test equipment.
  • Reads and accurately interprets system/network design maps. Verifies as built documentation; Compares findings in the field with existing documentation and reports findings following Company standard process.
  • Splices and/or terminates coaxial and fiber optics cables, mounts active and passive devices, both aerial and underground (cabinets and vaults), activates actives devices and tests to ensure optimal performance of all equipment in the HFC/fiber optic plant to Company, manufacturer, and design specifications.
  • Performs surveys to determine if customer-requested locations are capable of receiving service. Creates maps/drawings as necessary to assist in estimating costs for plant/drop extensions if location is beyond acceptable distance from existing plant.
  • Performs underground facility locates accurately using plant maps and electronic locating equipment in order to prevent cable damage and service interruptions.
  • Performs construction maintenance duties as necessary including: splicing aerial/underground coaxial and/or fiber optic cables and equipment to restore cable plant to system specification; splicing and activating new coaxial plant; repairing and/or replacing damaged aerial/underground plant; and inspecting, repairing and/or replacing power supplies.
  • Continuously monitors plant for ingress/egress and performs signal leakage ride-out activities and tracks and repairs signal leakage, as necessary.
  • Adheres to the rules and regulations of various regulatory bodies including, but not limited to; Federal Communications Commission (FCC), National Electrical Code (NEC), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT), as well as all local ordinances pertaining to the operation of a telecommunications system and the policies and directives of Cable One Engineering and Technical Operations departments.
  • Accurately records the amount of time spent on each individual activity by use of the mobile workforce management device and application; Completes associated paperwork with each job.
  • Trains system technical personnel as directed by local system management.
  • Cleans, maintains, and stocks vehicle, tools, and equipment in order to be prepared for daily responsibilities; reports need for vehicle repair or service when required and/or prescribed; and reports any accidents, losses, injuries or property damage to supervisor and customer when appropriate.
  • Drives company vehicle to different worksites throughout the day in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Performs all of the essential duties and responsibilities of the Field Technician, Senior Field Technician and System Technician on an as-needed basis. Other duties and/or responsibilities not specifically set forth above may, however, be assigned as needed. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Must meet all the education/experience requirements of a Senior Field Technician and have one-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must successfully complete Cable One Technical Training Center Advanced Technician course within 6 months of accepting position.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of signal level meters, volt-ohm meters (VOM), leakage detection equipment, time domain reflectometer (TDR), optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) and other related test equipment.Must be knowledgeable of rules and regulations of various regulatory bodies impacting the operation of a telecommunications system including, but not limited to, FCC, NEC, NESC, OSHA, and DOT, as well as all local ordinances.
  • Must be comfortable working at heights of 20 feet or more on a ladder or using pole climbing equipment.
  • Driver’s license and clean driving record.
