Field Technician

The Field Technician is responsible for conducting Site Surveys, Installation/Commissioning/Integration and troubleshooting of 3G/LTE 700, 800, 1900, 2500 MHz and/or AWS within a base station (BTS) and performing required Site Acceptance Testing procedures. Knowledge of typical configuration and installation best practices across multiple OEM BTS types, (Samsung, Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson or Nokia). Experienced in AC/DC power systems, installation methodology, labeling, Cisco/Juniper Cell Site Routers (CSR), typical configuration and installation of wireless cell site equipment, Ethernet Backhaul, troubleshooting Time Division Multiplex (TDM), Microwave Radio equipment and grounding. The ideal candidate will have experience with Wireless Network Topology, will be responsible for cleaning, scoping and testing Fiber optics and using a site manager tool to load configuration files and perform software upgrades on a DU/BBU shelf. The candidate will be responsible for faulty module replacements and work independently with remote engineering to troubleshoot. The position will require traveling within the local market using a company vehicle and cluster of assigned cell sites with occasional out of market travel if necessary. The Candidate must be flexible to work shift work including possible on call, nights and weekends as needed. Technician must live in the assigned area of the workload within 30 miles of the market. Will be required to ensure quality work and task completion with proper close out documentation for cell site visits.

Job Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 Identify and track wireless telecommunications site installation elements (BTS locations, fiber and power interface locations).

 Develop solutions for installation and decommissioning to include required construction, electrical and site prep.

 Installation of wireless cell site equipment including exterior cabling such as grounding, Ethernet, Fiber, power, coax and circuit breakers.

 Examine, validate and load up-to-date software and scripts.

 Troubleshoot and resolve issues with BTS cell site equipment.

 Install, test, commission and integrate new BTSs (voice, data, and E911 call testing)

 Must understand Basic Network Technology as well as having an understanding of Access and Core Network equipment used in Next Generation Network (NGN) and current networks.

 Should have experience with construction, troubleshooting, testing, and preventative maintenance of telecommunications equipment.

 Understanding of proper cable routing.

 Perform call testing and alarm clearing.

 Testing backhaul (Ethernet/TDM) head to head.

 Knowledge of OEM specific software platforms required for installation and commissioning practices.

 Ability to follow the method of procedures and reporting status, passdowns, and solutions.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

 Previous telecom industry experience desired.

 Should have an understanding of Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, or ATT Database Systems.

 Ability to maintain confidentiality is essential.

 Ability to read and interpret documents such as client specifications and requirements, procedure manuals, and reports.

 Satisfactory results from a background/employment history investigation and drug screening.

 Ability to complete on-the-job and/or classroom training as required.

 Must be able to lift up to 80lbs.

 Must be able flexible to work within an assigned market as assigned by the field supervisor.

 Should have experience with wireless telecommunication equipment installation and integration.

 Should have experience with Windows utilizing a laptop to set up console HyperTerminal sessions using FTP client software and configuring TCP/IP settings.

 Must be able to communicate successfully through emails and conference calls.

 Working knowledge of QuickBase is a plus.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

 An understanding of GSM or CDMA network architecture.

 An understanding of EVDO and LTE.

 Associate’s degree (AA) from a two-year college or technical school; with 2-5 years of applicable telecom installation experience in a highly aggressive field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS

 A team player with good communication skills with clients’ staff and team members is a must.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

 The field technician will work primarily from their work vehicle and home in various weather conditions.
