POSITION PURPOSE : Without direct supervision or direction train customers and new employees to safely operate and maintain BioMax® Systems (mechanical systems utilizing gasification technology to convert biomass to energy). Troubleshoot problems with existing BioMax® Systems, both customer and company owned, and work with customers and/or BioMax® System technicians to facilitate repairs and/or to improve performance. Complete mechanical and electro-mechanical work of moderate to high complexity including installation of retrofit parts and components. Ensure parts, components, sub-assemblies and assemblies are properly installed and working during the commissioning and repair of the BioMax® System, and that the BioMax® System performance meets or exceeds company standards. Identify and complete the type and number of tests needed to verify quality and performance of recently installed BioMax® Systems, as well as existing BioMax® Systems in the field. Operate and maintain BioMax® Systems at the company’s facilities, as well as locations around the world. This particular position will focus on supporting customers in Japan, so extensive travel to Japan as well as fluency in Japanese are required. Host visitors, and maintain positive customer relations with potential and/or existing customers. Maintain a safe work environment and ensure that other team members comply with safety and health standards, regulations, laws and company policies and procedures. Prepare and maintain customer documentation related to operation, safety, troubleshooting, spare parts, etc.

REPORTS TO : Field Services and Test Engineering Supervisor

EXAMPLES OF RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but not limited to):

  • Primary focus will be performing this job function servicing the Japanese market.
  • Install and commission BioMax® Systems at customer and other locations maintaining schedule and budget.
  • Train local operators in all aspects of BioMax® System operation and maintenance.
  • Run BioMax® System tests, analyze results and report findings.
  • Prepare as built drawings based on field requirements or modifications.
  • Be on call for customer and employee troubleshooting assistance by phone or for short notice travel to customer sites.
  • Develop specifications, work with Materials Acquisition and Management Department to procure equipment and coordinate with suppliers for customer warranty and spares support.
  • Operate, maintain and service BioMax® Systems at customer locations as requested, or during vacation, training or similar times when assigned operator of a BioMax® System is not available.
  • Apply analytical techniques to field data to optimize product performance, reliability, safety, manufacturability and cost reduction.
  • Assist Business Development and Marketing Department by conducting site surveys covering electrical, mechanical, fuel handling and placement requirements and communicate BioMax® System operating constraints to the customer.
  • Assist with on-going product evaluation, including feedstock, new component, algorithm configuration and similar testing, as well as field deployed system evaluation.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of design and assembly practices and promote the continued development of the BioMax® Systems and related components, sub-systems and processes by providing feedback to the Supervisor of the Customer Operations and Engineering Department on opportunities for product, installation or operation improvement.
  • Must represent the company in a professional manner at all times, and conduct all customer related activities in a courteous and polite manner while insuring company goals and expectations are met.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor Degree or equivalent (equivalent is 4 years of experience) in a relevant field of study.
  • Fluency in Japanese language and reading skills.
  • Must have knowledge about mechanical and electrical systems, and be able to program logic controls and similar equipment.
  • Strong understanding of thermal systems desired.
  • Hands on familiarity with engine systems operation and maintenance preferred.
  • Prior electrical and mechanical troubleshooting experience preferred
  • Strong computer operating skills; programming familiarity with LabView/Siemens TIA Portal a strong plus
  • Excellent communications and personal relationship skills required.
  • Foreign travel/living/work experience a plus.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to remote locations for up to 3 weeks duration at a time. Travel to Japan will be prevelant.
  • Ability and willingness to relocate for longer term assignments.

OTHER:

  • Must be able to perform heavy manual labor (push, pull and lift 45-60 lbs.) and to do extensive walking, standing and climbing.
  • Must be willing to work in a physically demanding work environment (i.e., work in all weather conditions, in confined spaces and in hot ambient temperatures).
  • Must be clean shaven and medically approved to wear a respirator and be fit testing for 1/2 face, full face, and SCBA respirator use.
  • Work week may exceed 40 hours.
  • Extensive travel and extended stays at customer locations are required.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license, or secure one and maintain upon employment.
  • May be required to use a personal vehicle for company business use (mileage is reimbursed).
