FBI Special Agent

All new FBI Special Agents will earn salaries at the GL-10 [Special Base Rate for LEOs] pay grade. Applicants with no prior government service will earn a salary at the GL-10, step 1 pay level with a 25% Availability Pay bonus (mid-$75,000s), but have the opportunity to promote to the GS-15 level (mid-$150,000s). Applicants with prior government service (including FBI professional staff) may be eligible to receive higher steps that are commensurate with their highest previous pay.

Candidates must have either:

• A completed Bachelor’s degree AND at least 3 years (36 months) of work experience after graduation. There are no exceptions.

OR

• A completed Master’s degree/Juris Doctor/CPA license AND at least 2 years (24 months) of post-Bachelor-degree work experience.

Candidates must also meet the following eligibility requirements:

• Be a U.S. citizen.
• Be between 23 years of age and their 36th birthday. By law, age waivers are only available for preference-eligible veterans and current federal law enforcement officers.
• Meet the Special Agent physical fitness standards.
• Have a valid U.S. driver’s license.
• Be completely available for paid reassignment anywhere in the United States.
