Description

The West Virginia University Reed College of Media is seeking applications for an External Relations Coordinator. This position will be responsible for
assisting the College of Media’s Director of Communications in a variety of integrated marketing communications and event planning activities.

In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:

  • Write press releases and stories for the College of Media alumni magazine.
  • Work with online programs team and Reed College of Media Director of Communications to produce high-quality marketing materials on time and within budget.
  • Manage the social media accounts for the College of Media and Online Programs, as well as the IMC Blog and job board and the College’s digital signage.
  • Create content for emails and letters to support donor relations and fundraising campaigns, content for alumni and donor section of the website, and other donor-related support as needed.
  • Serve as a liaison with vendors, ensuring timely production of materials within budget and adhering to College/Center and University standards.
  • Analyze market trends and research findings that inform the College’s events and community outreach strategy, and work collaboratively with the College’s Communications leadership.
  • Work in conjunction with others in the College of Media to develop a database of Advisory Committee and Influencer networks as potential panelists, guest speakers or innovators-in-residence.
  • Execute regional strategic recruitment activities, including up to six IMC open houses annually.
  • Plan and execute annual program INTEGRATE conference. Continue to increase national recognition of the conference and build on the current reputation of this major annual event which showcases WVU’s reputation and prominence as the home of the nation’s largest IMC graduate program.
  • Create and execute alumni outreach/activities, both on campus and in communities where high concentrations of alumni live (DC, New York, Pittsburgh, Charleston, etc.).
  • Organize and execute scholarship luncheons, spring honors ceremony, Commencement (May and December) and IMC/DMC picnic/reception following May Commencement.
  • Work in conjunction with faculty leads to manage events for Community Partnerships – i.e. 100 Days in Appalachia, Food Justice program, Community Branding, etc.
  • Organize trips to media markets and coordinate employer, donor and College Visiting Committee trips to campus.

Work Hours:
Must be able to work evenings and/or weekends as needed for events

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in public relations, advertising, integrated marketing communications, marketing, journalism, communications or a related field required
  • At least two (2) years of experience in the following:
    • Outreach and development of constituent relations and partnerships
    • Public relations, integrated marketing communications or a related field
    • Planning and executing strategic events
  • Demonstrated project management experience
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships and deal tactfully with a variety of constituents, including alumni, faculty and staff, students, media, etc.
