Experienced Electrical Controls Engineer – Some Remote Work

NOTE: This Job is expected to have periodic visits to our facility in SE Colorado at the employee’s expense. This job is for an EXPERIENCED candidate and OMC will not be able to provide sponsorship.

Summary

Design and analyze control systems, verifying and implementing code, fixing malfunctions, explaining and providing information, and analyzing and researching designs by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Include the following; other duties may be assigned.

  • Monitor project controls within discipline.
  • Test, maintain and monitor control systems design criteria.
  • Participate in reviewing and checking designs, drawings and data by another Controls Designer.
  • Perform overall systems design and engineering tasks.
  • Plan and conduct independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria.
  • Develop clear and concise operator instruction manuals.
  • Develop and execute regular engineering processes with supporting documentation.
  • Plan and perform work requiring electronic and mechanical theories and principles, and writing specifications.
  • Ability to research and implement what is the best technology evolving to fit product/industry needs.
  • Work with the Electrical Department to schedule electrical projects, test and troubleshoot.
  • Ability to understand programing languages and systems, control logic and control processes.
  • Ability to write programs and codes.
  • Manage the design and installation of electrical equipment including electrical power distribution systems, PLC’s, instrumentation, variable speed AC and DC drives.
  • Design calculations and prepare equipment or material specifications for electrical and electronic based systems.

Supervisory Responsibilities

There are no supervisor responsibilities in this position. May be asked to mentor employees in the Electrical Department.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university in Engineering or related; and four to six years related experience and/or training in controls engineering; or an equivalent combination of a minimum of eight years of education and/or experience.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in RS Logix 500/5000 Design software or similar; Networking capabilities with Internet software; Microsoft Office 2010: to include moderate knowledge with Excel, Word and Outlook. Incumbent will also utilize PLC, HMI and VDF programming and troubleshooting.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Current Driver’s License and ability to obtain an US Passport if necessary

Professional Engineering (P.E.) License preferred, but not required

This job can be performed offsite and/or remotely upon supervisory approval with expected ability to be onsite as determined by supervisory project needs. There is approximately 25-40% travel with this position. Must be eligible to work in the USA. No sponsorship available for this position.
