Estimator – Voice/Data Commercial Projects

Federated Service Solutions (est 2004) is hiring for an Estimator ! Technicians and Electricians looking to get out of the field, this is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for! We’ll train you in estimating and submitting bids.

You just bring us your 2 + years of prior experience and knowledge of electrical wiring / cabling projects – we’ll train you on how to do inventory, materials, and labor cost estimating for commercial projects. The Assistant Low Voltage Estimator will help our company in creating viable solutions for Client’s needs, continuously striving to improve our overall quality of service(s).

This position will work in our WHQ in Farmington Hills. This is a great opportunity for a Candidate who is seeking to move into the career path of the Engineering/Designing or Project Management of telecom projects .

As the Assistant Telecom Estimator , you’ll be mentored and trained by the Chief Engineer to determine cost of labor and equipment for low & high voltage electrical projects.

Providing research and bid estimates on a wide variety of commercial projects, you’ll interface with the entire project team and ensure timely, cost-effective, strategies for estimating electrical work on active and upcoming bids.

The ideal individual will have at least a little knowledge about equipment for ANY of the following: Data, Voice, Fiber Optics, Wireless Access, PoE, IP Surveillance, Intercom, Audio Video, Sound, CATV, CCTV, and/or RF Distribution Systems

What the Assistant Telecom Estimator will do at FSS :

• Review design solutions, plans/prints, Client specs, and other material to create bid estimates
• Collaborate with fellow techies for best practices and ideas on wide variety of infrastructure projects
• Research, learn, tinker, and train on equipment from the top companies the industry has to offer
• Use your knowledge of the telecom and networking industries to prepare bids
• Maximize efficiency and cost savings, recommending best practices for favorable bid acceptance; overcome challenges and obstacles
• Review job cost reports and change orders to monitor goals and budgets, ensuring profitability
• Attend project, engineering, Client, and sales meetings
• Assist with other tasks within the Engineering department as needed

The successful Assistant Telecom Estimator will have these attributes :

• An understanding of network infrastructures and standard practices in telecom
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and within Teams, following guidance from Chief Engineer and Project Managers
• Ability to work with a variety of Client needs and wants
• 2+ years experience working on structured cabling or electrical projects (installation, MAC, upgrade, or demolition)
• Technical aptitude as it relates to commercial enterprise networks
• Ability to read and mark up blueprints/schematics/riser drawings; CAD and/or Visio drafting experience is a plus
• Intermediate to advanced skills in MS Office – Excel and Outlook
• Great organizational, communication, and business etiquette skills
• Ability to travel for project visits, site surveys, and key installations (1-10 times per year)
• Provide Clients with solutions that are cost effective, service oriented, and timely; exceeding Client expectations
• Compliance to Safety and Company policies and procedures
• Low Voltage Licensing MI or relevant field licensing/certifications preferred though not required
• Knowledgeable of NEC codes, permit pulling process, cost control, estimating strategies, and project life-cycles preferred though not required
