ESI Graduate Student Internship (Summer) Development Program

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is offering a limited number of graduate student internship opportunities through its ESI Graduate Student Development Program. This program is designed to stimulate interest in interdisciplinary energy systems studies by enabling selected students to carry out research and development projects from a broad range of ESI disciplines. Selected applicants will become part of a small of cohort of students who will gain exposure to the breadth of ESI topics and work on a project that will contribute to the development of new capabilities at the NREL’s Energy Systems Integration Facility (ESIF), located in Golden, Colorado. The ESI Graduate Student Development Program will take place over period of 8 weeks, from June 19 to August 11, 2017. Participants will be compensated for their time and gain experience working in one of the Nation’s premier research laboratories. The ESI Graduate Student Development Program is open to students currently attending an accredited graduate or PhD program in Earth, physical or biological sciences, mathematics, or engineering disciplines. To be considered, applicants must have completed at least one year of a graduate study with a minimum 3.0 grade-point-average. . Required Education, Experience, and SkillsMust be enrolled as a full-time student in a degree granting program, or graduated in the past 12 months from an accredited institution. Internship period cannot exceed 12 months past graduation. Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. Preferred Qualifications Preferred candidates will have completed coursework or have demonstrated experience in any of the following areas: Control and Optimization of Complex Systems Simulation of Combined Power and Natural Gas Systems Advanced Algorithms for Power Systems Planning Distributed Load Sensing for Demand Coordination and Shaping Energy System Analytics and State Estimation Wireless Control of Distributed Energy Resources Integrated Power System and Communication Simulation Advanced Distribution Management Systems Applications and Evaluation High Performance Computing and Cybersecurity Water-energy Analysis Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Research Engineering related to laboratory operations .
