ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER ASSISTANT I

Description of Job Duties

Performs beginning level engineering tasks requiring the application of technical principles of design to determine compliance with applicable laws and regulations; recommends issuance or denial of permits within regulatory mandated constraints. Provides technical assistance to applicants, consultants and Division for Air Quality and other Energy and Environment Cabinet staff, regarding regulation interpretation and permitting issues. Performs other duties as required.

Characteristics of the Job :

Performs beginning level engineering tasks requiring the application of technical principles of design, construction, mining, development, remediation and/or reclamation necessary for environmental protection; and performs other duties as required. (Engineering decisions recommended by positions in this classification must be approved by a Licensed Professional Engineer under KRS 322.)

Typical Working Conditions and Unique Physical Requirements :

Work is primarily performed in an office setting. Frequent travel throughout the state may be required.

Additional Requirements :

Upon appointment, employees in this class may be required to maintain a valid driver’s license and required to drive a licensed vehicle. This status may be necessary for the length of time in this class. If this is necessary it will be listed in the specific position description for that position. Applicants and employees in this classification may be required to submit to a drug screening test and background check. Applicants and employees in positions which perform job duties that may require contact with offenders in the custody or supervision of the Department of Corrections or with youth in the care, custody, or supervision of the Department of Juvenile Justice must meet qualifications pursuant to the federal Prison Rape Elimination Act, 28 C.F.R.115.17 and 115.317.
