Entry-Level Transportation/Highway Engineer

VHB’s growing Bedford, NH office is seeking a Junior Transportation/Highway Engineer to join our Transportation Engineering/Highway Design group. Our primary clients are the NH Department of Transportation and NH municipalities. Our projects include a wide variety of small to large infrastructure projects including sidewalks, trails, intersections, arterial roadways, urban roadways, interstates and interchanges. This position includes working on design projects throughout northern New England.

VHB’s passionate professionals include engineers, scientists, planners, designers and CADD/GIS technicians who partner with public and private clients in the transportation, real estate, institutional, and energy industries, as well as federal, state, and local governments.

Responsibilities

• Work within a team of professionals in developing transportation design and planning solutions for a multitude of transportation and highway-related projects
• Highway design, drainage design and traffic control development

Right-Of-Way Plan development

Preliminary and Final Design Plan development

Performs quantity take-off in support of construction cost estimates

Contract plan and design development utilizing AutoCadd and/or Microstation

Skills and Abilities

Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

Comfortable working independently as well as on a team

Detail oriented

Self-motivated

Strong computer skills

Critical thinking

Qualifications

BS in Civil Engineering

0 to 3 years of professional transportation engineering experience, preferably in a consulting environment

EIT preferred

• MicroStation and/or Autocadd experience

InRoads, Civil 3D, and HydroCAD experience a plus

Familiarity with NHDOT/VTrans/MaineDOT Project Development a plus
