Enterprise Application Developer (Ellucian Colleague ERP)

Reporting to the Associate Director of Enterprise Resource Planning Systems, the Enterprise Application Developer undertakes application development and maintenance projects that promote an effective and efficient use of technologies and meet specific business process needs for Barnard College.

Position Summary Information
Essential Duties Summary

1) Responsible for all aspects of the software maintenance and development lifecycle in support of the College’s ERP, Ellucian Colleague:

  • Modify existing programs and procedures, by applying and testing vendor-supplied updates
  • Gather requirements pertaining to business processes and workflow; generate options for solutions; assess risks and provide recommendations
  • Develop new code to support accepted application design; data integration standards; test code to ensure functional requirements and desired results are met; follow quality standards for production deployment
  • Assist with resolution of issues; conduct appropriate research to determine best practices and to stay abreast of ERP application changes

2) Produce progress reports; maintain project plans; articulate risks and/or issues impeding a successful implementation (on-time, within scope and within budget); present progress to project team

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1) Experience working with customers to solve problems, provide guidance, and enhance their ability to use functional modules in Colleague

2) Demonstrated proficiency of Envision Basic, Colleague Studio, and the Colleague UniData data structure; experience developing computed columns, batch (ELF) processes, custom screens, and web forms

3) Experience developing applications or maintaining code for Ellucian WebAdvisor and/or Ellucian Student Planning, including a demonstrated knowledge of JavaScript, CSS, and HTML

4) Demonstrated knowledge of report scripting and SQL; experience with one or more reporting writing applications, such as Entrinsik Informer, SAP® Business Objects, SAP® Crystal Reports, and/or Microsoft SSRS

5) Experience working in a Linux environment, as well as an understanding of web server software such as IIS and Tomcat

6) Experience performing Colleague maintenance tasks such as cloning, patch updates (within a structured SDLC), and general system admin tasks

7) Demonstrated understanding of Colleague’s ecosystem (core applications along with its various interfaces)

8) Familiar with the technologies supporting decentralized data management and microservices architecture; experience developing an application in an OOP language and creating APIs

9) Familiar developing within a DevOps approach, an agile and lean approach to operations

10) Excellent verbal and written skills

11) Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an increasingly agile IT organization

Required Qualification Summary

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred; will consider supporting certificates or work experience in lieu of degree

Five (5) years of experience in the analysis, design, development and delivery of Envision/Colleague application solutions

Ability to perform customary office tasks such as sitting, walking, standing, computing, and answering telephone for moderate to prolonged periods of time combined with light to moderate reaching, bending and lifting.
