We are
Raytheon Missile Systems, a technology and innovation leader specializing in
defense, security and civil markets where you’ll be part of a diverse global
team working together to solve some of the most demanding challenges on the
planet. We are seeking an experienced guidance, navigation, and controls (GNC) engineering
professional with team leadership expertise in space vehicle design, integration,
and performance analysis. The ideal candidate has proven experience in
performing critical aerospace system trades and the presence required to advise
executive leadership in pursuit of organizational business objectives.

Job Description:

This
is an Engineering Fellow position within the Guidance, Navigation and Control
(GNC) Center performing advanced system design and analysis, integration
support, and overall system performance assessment. The Engineering Fellow will apply knowledge of
space system hardware/software design and GNC algorithm development with
particular emphasis on divert and attitude control systems for missile defense
applications. The engineer will lead others in the development of technical solutions
to complex problems that require application of advanced technical principles.
The role often requires acting independently to identify and resolve issues
associated with the development and implementation of GNC system designs that
can impact multiple programs. The Engineering Fellow will guide the successful
completion of major program efforts in a technical leadership capacity. The
individual will represent the organization as a key spokesperson for GNC and will
interact with senior leadership to plan and execute programs, while also
helping to shape the strategic direction of advanced missile defense systems to
accomplish long-term objectives.

Key Responsibilities (Essential
Functions):

· Provide technical
leadership for GNC development activities and consult on complex problems

· Develop solutions to
complex technical challenges often involving multiple subsystem interactions

· Assist with system
design decisions involving trade studies, requirements allocation, and
verification methods

· Devise and implement
advanced GNC algorithms and demonstrate performance results

· Analyze system
performance and associated risk assessments in simulation, hardware subsystem
test, and flight test environments

· Engage across
engineering disciplines to ensure proper implementation and test of GNC designs
and related flight software

· Coordinate with
suppliers to resolve technical issues, manage statements of work, and mitigate
risks

· Pursue advanced
research and development funding both internal and external to Raytheon

Required Education (including Major):

B.S.
from an ABET accredited institution in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical
Engineering.

Required Skills and Experience:

Twelve
(12) years of applied engineering experience in missile defense system or space
vehicle GNC design, analysis, and test

· Four (4) years of
demonstrated team leadership experience in the design of aerospace vehicles

· Experience with control
algorithm development, vehicle dynamics, and propulsion system modeling for
exo-atmospheric divert and attitude control applications

· System design
experience collaborating across multiple engineering disciplines, such as
electronics, mechanical, and software engineering

· Broad knowledge of GNC
to understand system level requirements allocation and dependencies, as well as
conduct trades studies and performance analysis at the systems level

· Proficiency with system
level modeling and simulation tools, such as six degree of freedom simulations,
to perform trade studies, develop algorithms, and demonstrate system level
performance

· Experience with GNC
flight software development and qualification

· Proficiency with MATLAB
and C/C++ programming

· Demonstrated experience
presenting technical data and interacting with customer community in design
reviews and technical interchange meetings

· Familiarity with
assessing program level risks to performance objectives and communicating
status to business leadership and customer community

· Must provide evidence
of patents and/or reviewed publications in applicable technical areas

Other Requirements:

· Must have an existing Department
of Defense issued Secret or Top Secret Security clearance

· Must be willing to
relocate to Tucson, AZ (comprehensive relocation package available)

Desired Skills:

· Masters Degree or Ph.D.
in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.

· Twenty (20) years of
applied engineering experience in missile defense system or space vehicle GNC design,
analysis, and test

· Industry experience
interfacing with Military or Department of Defense customers

· Knowledge of space
environments and impact of environmental factors on space vehicle design

· Familiarity with GNC
related sensors and control actuators

· Experience leading
failure investigation activities to diagnose, root cause, and implement
corrective actions to technical problems, including associated communication
with business leadership and customer community

· Experience with business
capture effort coordination and proposal preparation to obtain research funding
or new business contracts, spanning technical proposal development, work
breakdown structures and cost estimation

This
position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Non-US
citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance. The Defense
Industrial Security Clearance Office (DISCO), an agency of the Department of
Defense, handles and adjudicates the security clearance process. Security
clearance factors include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the US,
foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations
and drug involvement. Employment is contingent on other factors,
including, but not limited to, background checks and drug screens.
