Engineer IV – Senior Engineer

Jacobs Technology provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing and launch operations at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and Launch Services programs.

Will serve as senior leadership for ground systems on the System Engineering & Integration (SE&I) team for the SLS EM-2 Ground Systems Development project. Duties include:

Providing leadership for product development and systems integration; demonstrating experience with managing technical design integration across multiple complex subsystems.

Providing engineering expertise consultation in one or more ground systems disciplines: mechanical, electrical, cryogenic, pneumatics, environmental or ground cooling controls, mobile launcher, structures, movable platforms, handling access and equipment, and/or umbilicals.

Responsible for designing and accomplishing engineering tasks in their area of expertise in order to attain specific performance criteria. Can include a wide variety of specific tasks including but not limited to analysis, modeling, design, field support, manufacturing support, process development, and quality assurance.

This person will be a recognized professional authority in a specialty area and be capable of solving major problems in a narrow specialty field or over a broad scope of specialties.

Recommendations and conclusions are considered authoritative and are seldom questioned from a technical point of view.

Exercises a high degree of originality and sound judgment in formulating, evaluating, and correlating broad engineering/scientific concepts, guiding the analysis of unique problems, and developing new and improved techniques and methods.

Perform field interface and subcontractor coordination at all KSC work sites.

Provide work order processing, PeopleSoft purchase requisitioning, subcontract accounting, job estimating, integration, contract negotiation and project planning.

Work from written or verbal information, blueprints, drawings, sketches, specifications, and applicable codes and standards.

Communicate project status to customer and stakeholders in verbal and written formats.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and a minimum of fifteen(15) years of direct engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and thirteen (13) years of direct engineering experience, or Ph.D. degree and nine (9) years direct engineering experience.

Engineering Subject Matter Expert (SME) in one or more ground systems disciplines:

mechanical, electrical, cryogenic, pneumatics, environmental or ground cooling controls, mobile launcher, structures, movable platforms, handling access and equipment, and/or umbilicals.

Requires expertise with systems engineering and experience with requirements decomposition from stakeholder needs to ground system elements and then to ground system subsystems required.

Requires experience managing technical design and integration across multiple complex subsystems.

Minimum of 5 years’ experience with NASA/KSC flight hardware processes.

Excellent oral, written communication and presentation skills with a history of effectively interacting with senior managers at all levels.

Prior experience in developing technical work authorizing documents and associated requirement and verification documentation products.

Experience preparing, evaluating, and executing test and repair procedures.

Experience in hardware development, systems engineering and project management in an aerospace environment.

Familiarization with multiple engineering directorate divisions at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center is preferred.

Experience with NASA Systems Engineering processes per SP-2007 or Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) highly desired.

Proven computer skills utilizing MS Office, Excel, Word, Power Point, Access and Project.

Experience with integrated scheduling of complex projects in various operational facilities.

Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, if required.

Essential Functions

Physical Requirements

Will be required to climb stairs in order to access equipment for trouble shooting.

Will be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection and other associated personal protective equipment.

Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing.

Physical requirements are: sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures.

Position is located on a hazardous testing facility; must be able to quickly evacuate buildings in the event of an emergency.

Work Environment

Will be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex.

Position may require daily individual to travel to different areas on site.

Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility.

Climbing ladders and platforms may be necessary.

All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company

safety standards.

Equipment and Machines

Computers and printers used for producing reports and schedules.

Variety of equipment used in testing.

Attendance

Full-time regular work hours between Monday-Friday.

Position may require occasional overtime including weekend work depending on task.

Must be dependable and punctual.

Shift work may be required.

Other Essential Functions

Must be able to accurately communicate ideas in writing and verbal communication.

Must be able to travel to support position requirements. This may include travel to and from customer location, which may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can be made for POV, if necessary.

Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.

Must comply with all “drug free workplace” requirements as mandated by directives issued by the appropriate federal contracting officer and the company, which requires drug testing for use of illegal drugs by employees in sensitive positions.

Government security clearance may be required in the future.

Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relations with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.
