Engineer I or II – Stations

Under general and/or limited supervision this position provides design and engineering support of controls, instrumentation, local service, and other ancillary tasks associated with capital infrastructure improvement projects for electrical station and communication facilities. Engineering support of capital project designs includes oversight and quality control in a project design team integrating controls, protective relays, SCADA, communication equipment and station apparatus into a complete drawing set for issue to Company and external resources for construction.

REQUIRED SKILLS

Knowledge of:
Electrical engineering and operating principles in power stations and systems including the principles and practices of integrating station controls, Intelligent Electrical Devices, Communications, and SCADA systems

Complete drawings sets including single line diagrams, AC and DC schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, building equipment plans, network cable diagrams, manufacturer drawings and other ancillary details such as cable lists, bill of material, and design lists

Specifications, regulations, and guidelines for the design, construction, testing, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and protection of station equipment including practices, methods, materials, and equipment used in station construction

The hazards and safety precautions of electrical power station work

Drafting principles and deliverables

Quality control/assurance principles including complete point-to-point checking

Skills in:
Managing and coordinating control designs of projects using Company and contracted resources by providing engineering oversight, scoping/conceptual design, and engineering design support of project deliverables

Developing and analyzing alternative solutions to control problems.

Microsoft Office

Prefer

AutoCAD 2014

Ability to:
Prepare station electrical drawings and diagrams

Develop concepts

Demonstrate problem solving skills and techniques

Use good judgment and initiative to apply established guidelines to solve work problems

Manage multiple project designs simultaneously

Facilitate meetings

Lead control design projects

Apply the requirements of the NEC and NESC.

Perform technical research to solve problems

Perform field reviews as necessary to plan and coordinate project designs

Support design completion milestones and dates

Collaborate across multiple disciplines and departments

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering

Experience:
Level I – General engineering experience related to utility station engineering and design.

Level II – At least 2 years experience related to utility station engineering and design.

Licenses & Certifications

Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position.

Prefer

Professional Engineer license

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Additional safety related training may be required.

Travel across Idaho Power service area

Occasional extended stay out of town.
