The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) is a state agency charged with building and strengthening Wisconsin’s workforce in the 21st century and beyond. The Department’s primary responsibilities include providing job services, training and employment assistance to people looking for work, at the same time as it works with employers on finding the necessary workers to fill current job openings.

The Division of Employment and Training (DET) is looking for a qualified applicant to fill their Employment and Training Specialist-Lead vacancy. DET’s vision is to connect employers to Wisconsin talent and develop clients to meet demands driven by the labor market on skills, competency, and credentials requirements. DET provides labor exchange services to businesses and job seekers, through the many Job Centers located throughout Wisconsin and also through the Job Center of Wisconsin employment web site. This position is responsible for planning, directing, and evaluating the delivery of several employment-related services as a key partner in the Jefferson County Job Center located in Jefferson, WI.

Position Summary :
This position provides leadership and directs staff and resources necessary to implement the Division of Employment and Training’s mission, goals, and objectives while working effectively with partner agencies, diversity, changing conditions, and multiple priorities.

This position establishes priorities, assigns duties, and provides technical assistance to staff. In addition, the position will be responsible for fostering connections between businesses and job seekers (the public and/or targeted program participants), facilitating successful business-workforce relationships, and reducing the socio-economic costs of unemployment and underemployment.

The Team Leader will apply up-to-date knowledge of federal/state programs and related performance goals, labor market conditions, workplace needs, business practices, worker qualifications, career planning, successful job search techniques, productive case management and agency information systems to serve all customers and achieve program goals.

Due to the nature of this position, a criminal background check may be required prior to appointment.

Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e. a US citizen or national or a lawful permanent resident) at the time of appointment. DWD does not sponsor visas and is not an eligible OPT employer for those with F1 visas. This is not a contract position. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.

Qualifications :
Minimally qualified applicants will have:
Ability to communicate effectively to internal and external stakeholders through oral and written methods.

Ability to develop and maintain strong and effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Experience with employment and training programs and delivery systems.

Experience with responding to diverse customers on technical issues of varying complexity.

Well-qualified applicants will have:
Experience as a lead worker (e.g. establishing priorities, assigning duties, and providing technical assistance to other staff) and/or experience training staff.

Ability to prioritize and set realistic goals (for self and team).

Ability to work well with others, including diverse populations, persons with disabilities and people with limited English proficiency.
