Electronic Data Interchange Developer

Position Description Summary:
Responsible for the analysis, design, development, installation, and support of extremely complex and integrated software applications for use in diverse functional business areas within a team environment. Responsible for communicating at all levels necessary to support project objectives.

Principal Accountabilities (The following is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. It is not an exhaustive list of all expectations.):

  • Conduct independent analysis of complex business and technical issues and recommend alternative solutions, including development effort estimates and cost impact analysis
  • Create and modify highly complex technical software designs based upon the analysis of complex business requirements
  • Create and modify, test, and install complex software modules, including system documentation demonstrating mastery of system functionality
  • Coordinate software development activities of complex to very complex nature with project team members, including mentoring other staff members
  • Assume on-call support activities as required
  • Work with representatives of the user community to define and document complicated system requirements, report progress and status as required, develop and coordinate system testing, assist with training as required, and develop user documentation as required
  • Independently research and resolve issues obstructing progress on application usage, development, or functionality
  • Perform all development activities according to department standards
  • Demonstrate mastery of the languages and platforms required to develop applications
  • Conform to all development and support activity deadlines
  • Report development status to IT management, including all unanticipated events affecting development
  • Demonstrates mastery of ability to work on multiple complex projects.
  • Demonstrates mastery to function as the senior lead on multi-member projects.
  • Subject matter expert in multiple areas.
  • Able to perform in a project management capacity including project planning, budgeting, status reporting, resource planning and allocation, and management of client expectations. The individual in this position must be capable of performing all of the essential functions with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Knowledge and Skills (The following minimum requirements are normal guidelines and should not constrain the advancement of otherwise qualified personnel):
    Exceptional interpersonal and analytical skills required. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required. Generally, prefer 6-8 years of related experience.

  • Minimum 3 to 6 years experience with EDI applications and/or translators
  • Minimum 3 to 6 years experience EDI ANSI x12 experience
  • Experience with the following: UNIX, COBOL (AcuCobol or MF Cobol preferred); UNIX Scripting, Utilities, VI
  • Axway XIB/XFB, or equivalent EDI Translator experience
  • MS Office, MS Project
  • VAN profiling & retransmission routines, mailbox functions
  • Communication Protocols, sFTP, FTP, AS2, MQ, HTTPs
  • Strong analytical, organizational and leadership skills
  • Familiarity with Transportation and logistics preferred
  • Familiarity with Oracle RDBMS, Web Applications Development and XML
  • Plans work and measures performance
