Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering and a minimum of ten years of progressively responsible electrical and/or mechanical engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated job experience utilizing scientific and engineering highly complex tools, methods in the identification and mitigation of system and sub-system malfunctions.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical and mechanical engineering and fail-safe systems involved in the design and maintenance of transit equipment. Previous electrical engineering experience in the area being recruited for (Construction, Engineering, or Rail Car Maintenance is highly desired. Master’s degree may be substituted for two years of required experience.
  • Directly related work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis in-lieu of educational requirement.

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of complex electrical engineering work in designing, planning, overseeing, and improving the efficiency of the construction, installation, operation and maintenance of electronic as well as mechanical components, equipment, systems, or equipment used on the rail cars. Applies comprehensive knowledge of electrical and mechanical engineering, to complete difficult and significant assignments on rail car systems such as door system, APSE, HVAC, Propulsion and friction brake systems, ATC and vehicle controls, etc.
  • Works closely with Operations management staff, and the Quality Assurance and Safety to increase safety, quality, and efficiency. Provides answers to system problems and make recommendations or programmable logic control system circuit changes to correct problems.
  • Serves as lead engineer on projects and may review the work of engineering consultants.
  • Provides test and troubleshooting procedures to ensure that electrical and mechanical designs adhere to MARTA design criteria and all applicable codes and standards. Assist all maintenance personnel in comprehensive troubleshooting and investigations relevant to rail car systems functions and operations. Investigates, identifies, and develops solutions to improve the safety, reliability, and performance of MARTA equipment and facilities.
  • Prepares drawings and specifications for a variety of complex electrical systems, components, facilities, and equipment which, depending on assigned work area, may include new facility construction, major overhauls, rail car maintenance, lighting, communications, traction power, facility/equipment modifications, additions, or retrofits.
  • Investigates, identifies and develops innovative and creative solutions to improve the safety, reliability, maintainability, and performance of MARTA related equipment and facilities.
  • Provides lead technical support and assistance in the design, manufacturing, construction, maintenance, and modification of electrical equipment, systems and components. Identifies actions to correct existing equipment, or system deficiencies, and achieve state-of-the-art standards.
  • Prepares and updates design criteria, drawings, schematics, diagrams, and manuals for MARTA contracts and equipment.
  • Reviews and evaluates new proposals/specifications for applicability to the MARTA systems.
  • Serves as Lead Engineer for special project teams.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Georgia or the ability to obtain Georgia registration via reciprocity within six months is required for the Infrastructure position.
