Education Coordinator

The Division of University Outreach and Engagement at Oregon State University is seeking an Outreach Program Coordinator. This is a part-time (.75 FTE ), 12-month, fixed-term professional faculty position. The position will be located in John Day, Oregon. Reappointment will be at the discretion of the Regional Administrator for Eastern Oregon and the Extension Service Assistant Director, OSU Open Campus and Innovation.

The Division of University Outreach and Engagement (Division) at Oregon State University enhances access to enrichment and problem solving through reciprocal relationships for the exchange of knowledge and resources in partnership with individuals, communities, business, industries, government, and educational institutions.

This Coordinator will be a team member of the Division of University Outreach and Engagement’s OSU Open Campus and will have regional responsibilities.

OSU Open Campus is a partnership among Oregon State University, the Association of Oregon Counties, many of Oregon’s Community Colleges, regional economic development groups, the K-12 education systems, the business communities and local government. The goal of OSU Open Campus is to provide local access to learning that meets the needs of individuals, families, businesses, and communities.

This Coordinator will provide local leadership, coordination and foster partnerships needed to advance and sustain the OSU Open Campus.

This position will require traveling to meet with local officials, education and community agencies, employers and economic development staff, and individuals as well as to fulfill the general work requirements of this position.

Active and effective communication with staff and key stakeholders is critical to the success of this position and access to wireless services is necessary.

Position Duties

40% – Program Coordination:
Manage processes (admissions, course registration, student services, etc.) for effectiveness and efficiency;

Coordinate local logistics to accommodate needs of educational offerings, including programs like financial literacy, entrepreneurship, college visitations, business plans, agritourism, adult learning opportunities;

Integrate culturally relevant college and career readiness programming in schools and youth serving agencies;

Promote educational offerings;

Coordinate student recruitment into educational programming;

Deliver educational presentations at community events, have an Open Campus presence in all Grant County communities;

Mentor educational program participants and their families including students in internships and job shadowing situations;

Manage budget to achieve OSU Open Campus goals and objectives.

25% – Administrative Leadership:
Provide extraordinary community engagement;

Teach or facilitate educational programs for adults and youth in content areas germane to the program and achieve youth development outcomes;

Establish and guide effective organization structure for the work locally and statewide;

Create opportunities for increased engagement between the university, partnering organizations and the community;

Develop and maintain positive relationships with local stakeholders;

Increase degree completion off-campus using existing online degrees, often in partnership with community college lower division course work;

Develop a joint marketing campaign, and develop deliverables, with educational partners, especially Community College;

Provide fiscal leadership for the project, including budget development, business plan creation, fund and resource development and sustainable practices;

Manage and provide lead work for volunteers, students or interns who assist with programs such as Juntos. (5%)

Create research-based educational materials (handouts, curriculum, media based) and/or utilize existing research-based materials to support the delivery of educational programs;

Routinely evaluate the quality and impact of educational programming and services provided to youth and adults, and of the tools/mechanisms used to deliver these programs/services. Document learner progress and program impact.

25% – Program Leadership:
Implement continuous assessment of community’s educational needs;

Align identified educational needs with current, changing and emerging societal trends and resources;

Cooperate with internal and external partners to build an inclusive (K-12, community college, business, etc.) local Education Council or advisory board tailored to the community needs and environment;

Develop with partners an educational menu that meets the aligned needs through a variety of delivery methods and learning venues;

Evaluate effectiveness and appropriateness of local programming and OSU Open Campus goals to document the impact on and value to the community;

Report to the community and other stakeholders the evaluation outcomes document.

5% – Technology:
Utilize technology successfully as a tool to increase the impact;

Use multiple methods of electronic communication to collaborate both internally and externally as necessary;

Create content for delivery in multiple forms including web sites, publications, video conferencing and other online methods.

5% – Service and Other:
Participate in professional activities and serve on appropriate boards, councils and committees of the University, the Division of Outreach & Engagement, Extension Service, and the Community;

Attends scheduled OSU Extension Service and OSU Open Campus meetings; and attends OSU Extension County staff meetings, as appropriate;

Contribute to equity, inclusion, and diversity as part of assigned duties and/or service;

Participate in relevant statewide/regional conferences, workshops, and trainings; and participate in OSU Extension Service and OSU Open Campus activities as directed.

Minimum/Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Education Administration, Adult Education, Extension Education, or related field.

Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills including the effective use of mass media.

Demonstrated ability to work as a team member with other professionals and volunteers.

Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with youth 5-19 years of age (Kindergarten through 12th grade) as well as adult learners.

Demonstrated ability to lead groups and to plan, organize, evaluate, manage, and delegate details associated with program and office management.

Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage competing time demands.

General ability to use common computer software, including proficiency with information technology, web sites and social media.

Demonstrated ability to work with diverse audiences and to build community around culturally relevant programming.

Demonstrated ability to work as a collaborative member of a team.

A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity and inclusion.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months. Offers of employment are contingent upon meeting all minimum qualifications including the Criminal History Check Requirement.

This position requires driving a University vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the University; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Motor Vehicle History Check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per OSU Standard 576-056-0000 et seq. Offers of employment are contingent upon meeting all minimum qualifications including the Motor Vehicle Check Requirement.

Preferred (Special) Qualifications

Master’s degree in Education, Education Administration, Adult Education, Extension Education, or related field.

Demonstrated experience within public education, higher education, vocational education or Extension education.

Demonstrated ability to secure external funding support for educational programs.

Experience using multiple forms of electronic communication.

Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing technological environment.

Bilingual (English and Spanish) and Bicultural. Ability to engage Spanish speaking audiences through the utilization of bi-literate and bicultural skills.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule

This position requires flexibility to work in a variety of settings and on evenings and weekends.

Travel will be required.

Duties may require carrying, lifting, and/or pulling educational materials and equipment, up to 30 lbs.

This position requires a clear and unambiguous commitment to compliance of all National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) regulations for Division I (FBS) universities.
