  • Please Note: This position includes a 12-month in-training plan and will be filled at the LSR 1 level (Starting salary is $2485/monthly. Upon successful completion of 6 months of employment with the Department of Licensing, you will receive a 5% salary increase). Upon successful completion of a 12 month review period, you will be placed at the LSR 2 level (Salary Range 39: $2724 – $3541/monthly).

Upon completing training and certification, you will be eligible to become certified to issue Enhanced Drivers License (EDL), which will result in a 10% pay increase.

The Department of Licensing (DOL) is looking for an outgoing and enthusiastic customer service professional to join the agency and fill one of DOL’s most critical roles. As a Licensing Services Representative (LSR) you will have the opportunity to be the first line of defense in ensuring the public’s safety on Washington State roadways, and be the face of the Department to our customers. Issuing licenses and identification (ID) cards, following federal and state requirements, and ensuring every customer is treated with respect and dignity requires an exceptional individual. Some of the work you will do is:
Providing first class customer service to the public with enthusiasm and a smile.

Verifying and evaluating information to issue licenses and ID cards, instruction permits including any other licensing functions in compliance with laws, regulations, and procedures.

Collecting and accounting for licensing fees.

Assessing customer qualifications (physical, medical and visual) for licensing eligibility.

Conducting driving skill tests.

Authenticating identity documents through online verification.

Performing final review of all enhanced driver license or identity card applications and portfolios to determine applicant’s eligibility.

Conducting face-to-face interview with applicants to validate their identification.

Denoting U.S. citizenship of applicants.

Approving or denying EDL applications.

Issuing federally-approved EDL to eligible applicants.

Working Conditions

As an LSR you must be willing and able to do/meet the following:

Acceptable or clear finger-print based criminal history background check (Malfeasance Check).

Work a Tuesday through Saturday schedule.

Verified reliability check for previous five years of employment.

U.S. citizenship required.

What we are looking for (required):
High School graduation or equivalent, five (5) years of licensed driving experience (time with a learners permit does not count towards the 5 years of licensed driving experience), a valid Washington State Driver license with no restrictions other than corrective lenses (or the ability to obtain one upon hire), two (2) years’ experience providing customer service to the public, one (1) year experience using word processing software to create, format, edit, and save documents, U.S. citizenship required, AND demonstrated consistently progressive career development.

Required experience can be earned concurrently (i.e. at the same time).

Applicant work histories should demonstrate the following competencies:

Ability to adapt easily to changing business needs, conditions, and working responsibilities.

Ability to adapt approach, goals, and methods to achieve successful solutions and results in dynamic situations.

Ability to use data and information to assess and understand issues, evaluate options, form conclusions and make decisions.

Our ideal candidate will have :
The ability to type 30 wpm with or without reasonable accommodation, and one (1) year of cash handling experience to include receiving cash, making change, and counting down tills.

Union Inclusion: This position is covered by a union shop provision. Therefore, as a condition of employment, candidates who are appointed are required to become members of the PTE Local 17, or arrange to pay to that union a fee equivalent to its regular monthly dues.
