Economic Development Analyst

Under general supervision performs work of considerable difficulty coordinating the implementation of programs to encourage economic development and commercial revitalization in the city; and performs related work as required.

Examples Of Duties:
Develops and administers local and federal economic development programs and loans to small and large businesses.

Conducts independent financial risk analysis as it pertains to prospective projects. Performs financial analysis of proposed projects and programs, financing options and underwriting.

Coordinates with other city departments and outside organizations to retain, encourage expansion of existing businesses and recruitment of new businesses. Meets with and provides technical assistance to businesses in the areas of finance, commercial rehabilitation and modernization, and job development.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in finance, planning, economics, business, or closely related field; minimum one year professional experience in economic development, real estate development, commercial lending; professional economic development certification preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience

Knowledge and Skills:
Good knowledge of:
the principles and practices of business as they pertain to economic development including finance, business credit analysis, real estate development finance and deal structuring.

Some knowledge of:
Economics, municipal and business finance, accounting, and business law as applied to economic development.

State and federal policies, laws and programs pertaining to economic development.

Some skill in:
The development and administration of economic development related grants and programs.

Public speaking and presentations to various groups and audiences.

Making independent investigations, analysis and research on economic problems, and then presenting conclusions and recommendations clearly and concisely.

Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with associates, municipal officials, City staff and the general public.

General writing, report preparation and business correspondence, for effective written communication with City staff and the general public.

Maintaining confidentiality of business prospects and development opportunities.

Providing high quality customer service.
