The Aging and Long-Term Support Administration (ALTSA) , Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) is recruiting for a full-time position for a dynamic, experienced, culturally-competent professional to serve as an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Administrator for the Office of the Assistant Secretary (OAS).

The mission of the Aging and Long-Term Support Administration is to transform lives by promoting choice, independence, and safety through innovative services.

As the ALTSA subject matter expert on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), you’ll provide expert-level consultation and technical assistance. Working with executive leaders, you will assist the administration to strategically: identify, develop, and promote leadership skills and competencies that support policies, practices, and principles; and assist the administration in increasing awareness and removing barriers to institutionalizing Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion concepts and culture. The position develops, implements, monitors and continuously refines a comprehensive, statewide EDI plan that is incorporated in the ALTSA strategic plan. The position establishes the appropriate infrastructure to ensure key performance measures are met requiring that EDI concepts remain an integral part of ALTSA.

ALTSA includes the Office of the Assistant Secretary, the Divisions of Home and Community Services, the Division of Management Services, the Office of Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and the Residential Care Services.

The ideal candidate is highly motivated, work-oriented, and able to work efficiently and effectively, under tight timelines. Candidate must also be able to plan, organize, manage multiple projects, think strategically, and carry out long-term planning related to equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives.

Some of what you’ll do

  • Provide advanced level leadership and expertise to influence shifts in behaviors related to work environment, service delivery and culture, change management
  • Assess and evaluate ongoing surveys, demographics reports, disparity analyses, complaint summaries, literature review, service trends
  • Collaborate and serve as a creative resource and consultant for diversity-related initiatives, activities, materials and advice
  • Apply research standards to results interpretation and a range of approaches to outcome-based effectiveness evaluation.
  • Collaborate closely with executive management and staff to implement high impact practices associated with equity, diversity, inclusion excellence.
  • Lead a statewide community of practice team comprised of subject matter expert representatives from each of the Home and Community Services Division (HCS) and Residential Care Services Division (RCS) region, state level divisions and liaisons to diverse populations to develop and implement ALTSA’s strategic plan, policy and practice related to EDI.
  • Initiates and conducts strategic assessments to continually evaluate ALTSA’s culturally and linguistically appropriate services.

Who should apply?

  • Master’s Degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Sociology or closely related field and a minimum of three years progressively responsible experience leading and managing programs in a large government agency or;
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Sociology or closely related field and a minimum of three years progressively responsible experience leading and managing programs
  • Current Certified Diversity Professional (CDP) or Certified Diversity Executive (CDE) or equivalent credential.
  • Certification in Program Development or Project Management

(An equivalent number of years of professional experience may substitute for education.)

What we’re looking for

  • Expert working knowledge of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion principles is strongly desired and will contribute to your success in this role
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of federal and state laws, regulation, policies related to long term services and support
  • Strong problem-solving and public speaking skills
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating groups, conflict resolution, and training
  • Working knowledge of strategic planning and performance management
