DSHS Long-Term Care Surveyor – Compliance Auditor

The Quality Management Department at Western State Hospital is seeking a highly motivated and organized self-starter to serve as a Long Term Care Surveyor to work as a Compliance Auditor.

Reporting to the Compliance and Standards Manager, you will provide monitoring, consultation and education on the effectiveness and appropriateness of inpatient psychiatric treatment. This work assists the hospital in achieving and maintaining regulatory and other required compliance.

The primary focus is to assist the treatment teams in developing patient-centered psychiatric treatment as indicated through the audit of patient medical records that satisfy hospital accreditation and certification standards. In addition, you will research best practices and minimum standards associated with the provision of quality in-patient care, provide relevant education, implement quality assurance monitoring systems to create a culture of excellence and ensure standards and related policies are attained.

You will assist hospital leadership and clinical groups to provide the highest quality in-patient psychiatric care through continuous improvement efforts.

Some of the things you will do:

  • Complete qualitative medical records reviews of all patient treatment related documentation
  • Working with supervisor, clinical professional staff and clinical leadership develop and implement continuous quality improvement systems for in-patient psychiatric treatment
  • Formulate corrective action plans to address identified opportunities for improvement related to patient treatment plans and programming
  • Develop effective lines of communication across the organization
  • Enforce standards and establish lines of accountability throughout the hospital relating to compliance
  • Plan, develop and facilitate education programs to ensure quality patient care, treatment and services
  • Participate in process improvement groups including root cause analysis teams to address identified opportunities for improvement
  • Supporting the Performance Improvement Unit conduct follow-up audits
  • Coordinating with the Compliance Unit Manager, independently investigate and act on matters related to compliance
  • Provide education relating to best practices and minimum standards to assist clinical supervisors and leaders in the formulation of relevant policies and procedures
  • Coordinate with Quality Management Staff Development personnel to align training programs that focus on elements of the compliance program
  • Coordinate with Quality Management Department’s Performance Improvement Unit staff in the development of performance improvement projects

What we’re looking for:

A professional with a master’s degree in social work*, speech pathology, occupational or physical therapy, psychology, special education, nutrition, sociology or an allied field AND 2 years of professional experience in planning, administering, licensing, monitoring or delivering social and health services programs.

Or, a bachelor’s degree in social work*, speech pathology, occupational or physical therapy, psychology, special education, nutrition, sociology or an allied field AND 4 years of professional experience in planning, administering, licensing, monitoring or delivering social and health services programs.

Work experience should also include substantive experience in an in-patient psychiatric setting.

Desired

  • Knowledge of organizational principles, communication techniques and performance improvement methodology
  • Working knowledge of evidence-based mental health/in-patient care practices
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work of others, evaluate and compare written data and observations and speak and write effectively
  • Ability to think creatively and critically, lead, manage and motivate others and communicate and interact with various disciplines and community agencies

  • A degree in Social Work must be from an educational program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
