Job Overview

The successful DSR serves customers and prospects by selling products and business solutions. DSRs deliver value to customers and prospects by making consistent personal sales calls by following up and executing on commitments made during those visits. DSRs assist in the achievement of Nicholas and Company’s top strategic goals through new customer acquisition, customer account penetration, and customer retention activities.

Essential Job Functions

Learn and practice Strategic and Conceptual selling methodology, terminology, and practices.

Learn and adopt DSR “Vital Behaviors” relating to account acquisition, penetration, and retention.

Deliver results by attaining individual sales and gross profit budgets and other KPIs.

Complete initiatives, assignments, and projects as assigned by District Sales Manager and other team leaders.

Personally visit customers on a weekly basis and accurately enter, review, and transmit customer orders.

Understand, explain, and implement Nicholas and Company’s credit policies and terms with customers.

Collect, handle, and deposit customer payments according to policy and within established time lines.

Regularly visit prospective customers. Understand Buying Influences and Solution Image.

Regularly add new customers and significantly penetrate existing accounts.

Prepare and conduct Quality Business Reviews (QBR) with customers as a customer retention strategy.

Become familiar with and understand DSR compensation programs and commission chargeback policies.

Collaborate and communicate with other departments to promote unity, cooperation, and efficiency

Learn and become proficient with Salesforce.com. Enter and maintain contacts, leads, opportunities etc..

Attend and participate in all Nicholas and Company required sales and training meetings

Complete Nicholas and Company DSR training program and certifications

Time Allocation Expectation (Estimated Average – 60 hour work week)

60% – Personally visit customers and prospects – average 36 hours per week

20% – Follow up with commitments made to customers and prospects – average 12 hours per week

10% – Administrative work – order guides, price lists etc. – average 6 hours per week

10% – DSM one-on-ones, District, Regional, and Corporate sales meetings – average 6 hours per week

Qualifications

Must have a valid driver’s license and dependable vehicle

Must have a clean Motor Vehicle Record

Must have strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication and listening skills

Must be able to work independently in an unstructured environment without direct daily supervision

Must have the ability to be tenacious and resilient in all phases of the selling cycle

Must have the ability to understand market planning, customers, and the competition

Must have the capacity and drive to understand the foodservice distribution industry

Must have strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects/processes concurrently

Must have strong computer and typing skills (Windows, Word Processing, Excel, Power Point etc.)

Motivated self-starter who is willing to communicate and collaborate in an inter-dependent environment

Excellent customer service attitude and courage to forge “Win – Win” relationships

Must reside in or be willing to relocate to assigned territory

Preferred Qualifications

2-5 years sales experience and/or food service background

Bachelor’s degree in Sales, Marketing or related field and/or equivalent experience
