What We’re Looking For
We are looking for an experienced leader to define the future of Platform Engineering. We want someone that has experience and is eager to lead a team of highly capable developers to deliver highly scalable and reliable solutions for our back-end services platform and application development. This is a fantastic opportunity to help solve complex but interesting scalability, performance and availability challenges for products consumed by millions of users each day! You will have the opportunity to work with a suite of great technologies and in a highly collaborative environment. This is a hands-on leadership role.

What You’ll Do
As the Director of Platform Engineering, you’ll be responsible for leading the Cloud Infrastructure and Application Infrastructure teams to build out our application development and deployment framework. Working with our Software Architect, you’ll enhance and evolve the architecture and design for our scalable microservices. Your teams will enable other engineers across the organization to quickly build out services that support a wide variety of initiatives, including web application development, data ingestion, container orchestration, and more.

Your Responsibilities Will Include, But Aren’t Limited To

  • Lead the growth and development of an incredible team of talented and motivated engineers with high expectations around individual ownership and impact
  • Set the direction for the team and anticipate strategic and scaling-related challenges via thoughtful long-term planning
  • Design solutions within the context of available infrastructure by taking into account scalability, availability, reliability, stability, security, and performance
  • Work with other engineering leaders to implement a scalable application development and deployment platform including internal tooling to help development teams moves faster
  • Contribute to long-term technology solutions based on business needs, architecture, and strategic drivers
  • Continuously stay up to date with industry changes and bring new ideas to the team
  • Identify, evaluate, and select appropriate technology in alignment with engineering needs

Who you are


Skills, Accomplishments, Interests You Should Have

  • 7-10 years of hands-on technical expertise leading teams who provide application development and deployment tools
  • Experience with a consumer web company with millions of consumers
  • Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline, or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Experience with building and leading teams of more than 10 engineers and a couple of managers
  • Have 4+ years of cloud experience in AWS, with an emphasis on

    • VPCs, subnets, and peering
    • Security (shared responsibility model)
    • Cost controls
    • RDS
  • Experience creating build and deployment pipelines within a microservices architecture
  • Thorough understanding of the challenges of working with distributed and multi-threaded systems along with experience monitoring those systems and troubleshooting problems
  • Expertise with engineering practices such as code refactoring, design patterns, design-driven development, continuous integration, building highly scalable applications, and application security
  • Ability to iterate quickly in an agile development process
  • You will bring your knowledge and experience of SDLC, high performance scalable cloud architecture, AWS and CI/CD
  • Experience with open source solutions, using and deploying on cloud based platforms
  • Continuous integration and continuous delivery
  • DevOps best practices
  • Container orchestration
  • Monitoring and performance, log aggregation (Splunk, ELK, etc), request tracing, APM and server monitoring (New Relic, App Dynamics, Datadog, CloudWatch, etc.)
  • General architecture concepts such as API gateways, queues, GraphQL
