Director of Air Quality Engineering

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently seeking a technical and Market Leader for Georgia and Southeast Regional Air Quality Team to market, win and execute air quality permitting and regulatory support projects for existing and new industrial clients and proposed industrial development and expansion projects. Wood is a global technical services and consulting firm. Our Environment & Infrastructure business is a multi-disciplined consulting organization primarily consisting of environmental scientists and engineers with offices from northern Canada to southern Chile and across the UK and Continental Europe. We are seeking a Senior Manager/Air Quality Engineer with 10 – 20 years of air quality engineering experience to join our Atlanta Metro Area (Kennesaw, GA) office and become an integral member of our team.


Key Responsibilities
This person will be a member of a team providing primarily air quality and other environmental engineering services to private industry and government clients. This position will support a wide variety of projects including air emissions inventories, permit applications, air quality computer modeling and support for other environmental compliance and remediation projects. Some of the responsibilities of this position will include:
  • Lead marketing and business development for air permitting work throughout the region
  • Lead preparation of technical reports and proposals
  • Client account management
  • Project management and team development
  • Development of technical approach, selection of technical tools, and direction of project team
  • Regulatory agency strategy and permitting strategies, negotiation and execution
  • Lead preparation of major and minor source permit applications
  • Conduct air pollution dispersion computer modeling of air pollution dispersion
  • Air pollution control feasibility studies, specifications and design
  • Technical review and mentoring of mid to junior engineering staff
  • Public meeting participation and expert testimony

Skills / Qualifications

Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Environmental Engineering
  • In-depth knowledge of all manner of industrial plants and processes
  • 10+ years experience in environmental engineering and air permitting in Georgia and the southeast
  • Demonstrated success in client management and development
  • Significant New Source Review and PSD permitting experience
  • Technical understanding of permitting process, air modeling, and regulations
  • Known reputation and relationship with state regulators
  • Proven project management skills
  • Computer proficient (must have proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and excellent spreadsheet skills
  • Working expertise with all forms of air dispersion models
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Demonstrated verbal communication and technical presentation skills
  • Team player and technical contributor
  • Able to define scope, schedule, and budget for project implementation
Preferred
  • Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering
  • Knowledge and understanding of local, state, and federal air quality regulations
  • Prior experience conducting air quality compliance projects in Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina
  • Specific knowledge or experience in several of the following air permitting areas: New Source Review (NSR), Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD assessments), Title V permitting, Development of annual air emission inventories (AEI, SARA 313), Best Available Control Technology (BACT) or Lowest Achievable Emission Achievable Rate (LAER) evaluations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge with AERMOD, ISCST3, and CALPUFF models
  • Prior consulting experience
  • OSHA HAZWOPER Trained

Physical Demands and Work Requirements
  • Must be able to travel and perform unimpeded standing and walking in industrial and field environments for up to 12 hours per workday
  • Must be physically capable of performing work in H&S personal protective equipment including air purifying respirator
  • Able to travel to and from job sites in various areas of country without limits
  • Potential international travel for project development and meetings
  • Possess legal right to work in U.S. permanently
