Director of Agriculture

The Director of Agriculture is expected to be the lead in efforts to grow and improve agriculture programs, supervise faculty and staff, cultivate community partnerships, engage students in experiential learning, and fortify educational and scholarly collaborations and articulations with the University of Wyoming and other national four-year institutions. Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate courses in Agriculture with a preferred emphasis in Natural Resources and Rangeland Management and other related areas as determined by qualifications.

Supervisory and Management Responsibility:

  • Supervise faculty and staff in the

Agriculture Department

  • Manage budgets
  • Address student issues and concerns

Reports To

Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs

Education/Qualifications

Master’s degree or higher in an academic discipline of agriculture, PhD preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to teach agricultural related courses.

Preferred teaching areas are in rangeland management and natural resources.

Ability to work with a broad spectrum of student abilities

Excellent skills in time management and task accomplishment

Working knowledge of natural resources management strategies

Knowledge of sustainable ranching, livestock production and other agriculture practices

Familiarity with team-building strategies

Commitment to an experiential learning educational philosophy

Commitment to the community college mission

Appreciation for scholarly and / or grant writing pursuits.

Demonstrated ability to cultivate and maintain collaborations.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Possible summer teaching and involvement in projects is expected

Travel with students, sometimes in inclement weather

Experience

Experience working with online and other educational technologies

Experience working in an educational setting, preferably at the community college level.

Preference given to individuals with a research background.

Communicate and collaborate with agriculture faculty to establish and maintain agriculture program objectives and goals

  • Collaborate with recruiting and

marketing to develop and plan activities

  • Coordinate and maintain outreach

activities with community supporters,

University of Wyoming, and other

institutions and agencies

  • Develop working relationships with

appropriate agencies, businesses, and

community members to provide student

learning opportunities such as

internships, practicums, field trips, and

research projects

  • Support student activities such as ag-

related clubs, community service, student

competitions, research activities, and

presentations

  • Advise agriculture majors
  • Assist faculty with curriculum updates

and academic evaluations

  • Hire, supervise and evaluate department

faculty and staff

  • Identify and contribute to grant

applications and requests for alternative

funding and donations

  • Manage department budget and other

funding received

  • Lead the department’s efforts to assess

student-learning outcomes at the

program and institional levels.
