Director, Marketing and Communications

The College of Social and Behavioral Sciences ( SBS ) at the University of Arizona is accepting applications for a Director, Marketing and Communications. This position reports to both the Dean, College of SBS and the Associate Vice President for Marketing and Brand Management. This position is responsible for managing marketing and communications projects for the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences and for coordinating these activities with UA Marketing and UA Communications. The Director provides service to SBS units on all marketing and communications matters, including writing and graphic design, and oversees the college’s marketing and communications team. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills are essential to the position.

Note: Local, statewide and national travel will be required and incumbent will often be required to work evenings and/or weekends as necessary.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute marketing plans and manage SBS marketing and communications efforts,
  • Insure alignment between SBS marketing communications efforts and the larger UA brand, working collaboratively with UA Marketing and Brand Management and UA Communications. Work with University-wide offices to ensure SBS’s alignment with UA guidelines, practices and policies, and remain current on related issues.
  • Provide writing and graphic design services to the college and its units through the marketing and communications team.
  • Supervise college marketing and communications personnel.
  • Provide publicity, and graphic design support to SBS events.
  • Manage media relations activities for SBS with careful coordination with UA Communications.
  • Highlight college activities to internal and external entities.
  • Manage SBS social media presence and coordinate social media activities across SBS units.
  • Utilize appropriate marketing research techniques as needed.
  • Achieve targeted results and ensure timely and effective execution of marketing tactics and programs.
  • Identify, interpret, and capitalize on marketing trends in concert with AVP Marketing and Brand Management.
  • Coordinate with SBS units on their marketing and communications efforts, ensuring cohesive branding.
  • Provide marketing support to SBS Tech on web design and video production.
  • In conjunction with UA Marketing and Brand Management, manage all copyright issues.
  • Work closely with Dean and college leadership on internal/external written communications.
  • Collaborate with SBS Tech, SBS Outreach, and SBS Development on all SBS goals and objectives.
  • Develop relationships with industry and other external groups to enhance college brand.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of institutional and corporate giving, planned giving and capital campaigns.
  • Knowledge of federal laws pertaining to all forms of charitable gifts.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituents and work collaboratively with colleagues in a team environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Marketing, Design or related field and 3 years of marketing/communications experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent copy-editing skills.
  • Experience with marketing and/or promotional campaigns.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Marketing or related field.
  • Supervisory and managerial experience.
  • Experience with marketing analysis
