Digital Communications Manager

Reporting to the director of communications, the digital communications manager will collaborate on, design, and implement innovative and effective approaches for sharing high-impact content via the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences’ digital and social platforms with the aim of engaging the School’s many audiences. Key responsibilities include managing the creation of content (including news articles, photographs, videos, and other materials) for the website and other channels, overseeing and recommending improvements to the social media strategy, managing e-newsletters and a student app, and utilizing analytics to recommend and implement improvements.

Candidates will need a good understanding of all aspects of digital communications and social media and be able to keep up to date with new developments as they happen, particularly with trends in digital media.

Specific responsibilities and duties include:

Website

  • Manage and optimize the GSAS website, adding and updating content and page design in Drupal, creating new pages and implementing new features as needed.
  • Work with GSAS stakeholders to update, redraft, or edit pages and ensure accuracy.
  • Work with developers on new platforms for interactive and multimedia content.
  • Manage and design several other websites on the OpenScholar platform.

Analytics

  • Utilize analytics and other measurement tools to assess the impact of digital media campaigns and overall marketing strategy (for website, e-newsletters, social media, and app).
  • Develop monthly reports on content performance, interpret data, and make recommendations.
  • Track latest trends in social media and digital content marketing, make recommendations based on these trends and original research.

E-newsletters

  • Design and manage distribution of alumni e-newsletter using SalesForce Marketing Cloud.
  • Develop, design, and manage distribution of e-newsletters for GSAS students, FAS partners, and GSAS staff using MailChimp.

Social Media

  • Manage social media channels and develop strategy for dissemination of content.
  • Write, edit, and proofread content
  • Identify opportunities for engagement to help maximize the School’s visibility, reach, and impact; increase engagement with target audiences.

Student App

  • Ensure accuracy of content in GSAS student app, Thrive@Harvard.
  • Work with developers to enhance app to serve needs specific to GSAS students.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of work experience creating and distributing digital content, including web, social, and e-mail content.

Additional Qualifications

Experience creating and managing content in a scholarly environment preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of web technologies and experience maintaining web content management systems; demonstrated experience implementing comprehensive social media and digital distribution strategies across channels/platforms and managing an editorial process to maximize the impact of digital content.

Experience with Hootsuite, Google Analytics, and e-mail management systems; experience with Microsoft products (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Adobe Creative Suite, HTML, Drupal-based editors, and other web-based collaboration tools.

Strong analytical and technical skills, project and management skills, and communication skills, creative, innovative thinker, action-oriented, versatile, ability to adapt in dynamic environment, resourceful and honest; attention to detail and experience with self-editing and fact-checking of content; experience with photography, podcasting, and video desirable.
