DevOps Systems Engineer

GENERAL SUMMARY

Position is for a DevOps Systems Engineer to join a software development team located in Silver Spring, MD.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for automated configurations management using tools like Puppet and Ansible while being an integral part of the overall DevOps team

Work with lead DevOps System Engineer to understand and take full control of all operational workflows and standard operating procedures, down to a granular level

Provide operational support for large scale Puppet infrastructure; develop, test and maintain various Puppet modules and Ansible playbooks

Work with cross functional IT teams to assess and analyze requirements for various data center configuration items

Use Puppet and Ansible to install and maintain third-party software in our environments

Learn new third-party vendor software, hardware, and other solutions quickly and integrate them within our environment

Ensure systems security and proactively evaluate any security vulnerabilities.

Maintain high standards for customer service touch-points affected by operations.

Proactively identify, manage and mitigate risks.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Minimum B.S. in computer science, engineering, or a related field or equivalent experience with an emphasis on full lifecycle systems development.

7+ years of experience with Linux system administration preferably in RedHat Linux with expertise in troubleshooting skills.

Experience with Linux including configuration, networking, hardening, shells, package management and scripting

Experience using Puppet (or Chef, Ansible, CFEngine, etc.) for configuration management and to orchestrate infrastructure deployments

Strong understanding and hands-on knowledge of information security fundamentals

Networking (good understanding of TCP/IP stack, basic switching/routing concepts)

Strong scripting skills; BASH, Ruby, Python, PowerShell script

Experience with Virtual machines – VMWare or KVM or Xen

Experience provisioning and deploying within AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Services

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Federal Government experience is a plus

RedHat Linux Certifications, Puppet Professional Certification or any equivalent certification with other configuration management tools

Experience in Cloud Administration a big plus
