Job Title: DevOps Engineer (DOE)

Job Overview: The primary responsibility of the DevOps Engineer (DOE) is to automate the management and maintenance of software development systems, java-based application servers, and apache web servers. The DOE will work to improve the operation and reliability of software development systems, software deployment systems, and application servers through automated monitoring and automation of common tasks. The DOE will assist in the design of robust java-based application infrastructures that use Weblogic, TIBCO BusinessWorks, F5 network devices, and apache web servers. The DOE will also deploy applications to UAT and Production systems and administer system configuration changes to the application ecosystem.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Analyze, develop, and maintain scripts and tools that support and automate tasks and processes for software application releases and to reduce manual effort and improve repeatability.

• Work with a release engineer to determine an appropriate deployment schedule and deploy applications in a clustered and load balanced N-Tier infrastructure.

• Assist other IT personnel to build new software development systems, along with upgrading and patching of existing systems.
• Act as liaison between software development groups and the Operations group to resolve issues with system configuration and behavior.

• Configure, patch, and maintain Linux-based application servers and other development servers.
• Work closely with software development teams and Operations personnel to insure development environments are correctly configured.

• Write and maintain documentation involving job related functions.

Qualifications:

• Education: BS/BA degree or higher in Computer Science or related field.
• Experience:
  
  • Three years of experience in a previous DevOps role working with UNIX/Linux servers, Weblogic application servers, and apache web servers.
• Language/Reasoning/Mathematical or other specific skills:
  
  • Experience writing complex shell scripts.
  • Expert level understanding of networking/distributed computing concepts and client/server applications
  • Linux administration experience (e.g. Ubuntu, RedHat/CentOS) with a focus on web (Apache) a plus.
  • Experience administering and tuning Weblogic Java Application Servers a plus.
  • Experience with Powershell, Python and Nagios a plus.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a good understanding of industry standard software configuration management (SCM) processes, tools & techniques (Version Control tools, Defect Tracking, Static Analysis).
  • Experience deploying and administering open-source or commercial build and release tools such as Jenkins, Bamboo, Jira, Subversion, GIT, Ansible
  • Understand protocols and technologies like HTTP, SSL, LDAP, JDBC, Servlet/JSP, HTML, and XML
  • Understand application clustering/load balancing concepts and technologies
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English are required.
  • Ability to handle change and a self-starting attitude are required.
  • Ability to work independently and also coordinate with others and to prioritize projects as well as combining research and expertise to assist organization.
