DevOps Engineer

Position Summary

National company seeking a DevOps Engineer for an onsite contract opportunity in various locations. DevOps Engineer will build, configure, and maintain IT infrastructure, systems and advanced tooling to automate processes and streamline CI/CD and deployments. Candidate will be responsible for implementing and supporting Automation tools (e.g. Puppet, Jenkins, Chef) to automate the code release process and increase productivity and infrastructure integrity, with a strong focus on Security and Cloud.

Responsibilities

  • Engage on applications teams and provide technical expertise in DevOps, including Cloud (AWS, Azure etc.) covering Release Automation, Software Configuration Management, Environment Management, Testing Lifecycle Management and Continuous Integration
  • Provide guidance in digital transformation, implementing DevOps processes and CI/CD tools to automate infrastructure and platform.
  • Owns Administration of DevOps tools like Github, Cloudbees Jenkins, SonarQube, Nexus Pro, JIRA, Puppet etc. * Implement Continuous Integration solutions and automation
  • Implement Security tools into the CI/CD toolchain
  • Primarily responsible for troubleshooting tool configuration and tools infrastructure knowledge
  • Build and automate release pipelines and regression tests using Jenkins CI and scripting
  • Automate configuration and builds of new environments using Puppet configuration management
  • Setup Bitbucket and Sonatype Nexus Repositories
  • Monitor daily Jenkins pipeline jobs and logs filesystems
  • Handle incoming requests and inquiries for new tools and workflow procedures
  • Develop user guides and training materials for CI/CD tools like Jira, Bitbucket, Jenkins, SonarQube, Sonatype Nexus Pro and Lifecycle etc.
  • Provide technical assistance for user access to the CI/CD toolchain
  • Report performance related issues to management by analysis and tracking of existing systems
  • Implement version control solution and ensure version and change control procedure adhere to standards
  • Integrate automated testing tools and scripts into the pipeline
  • Implement continuous monitoring solutions
  • Support automated test data management solutions

Additional Responsibilities

  • Provide Cloud migration and administration support
  • Support maintenance and improvement activities by installation of security patches and related fixtures
  • Standardize software installations, logging locations, and environment dependencies
  • Assist in the development of tools and utilities to provide short term solutions to immediate needs as required

Experience

  • Broad knowledge of DevOps tools and best practices
  • Experience with DevOps CI/CD toolchain
  • Experience implementing Continuous Integration and working with ALMs
  • Experience with implementing ITIL and CMMI methodologies a strong plus
  • Experience in Automating build process as much as possible
  • Experience in providing build management and execution support
  • Hands on experience implementing technologies like Software Configuration Management, Environment Management, Release Automation, Workflow Management and Defect Management
  • Experience supporting Deployments and participate in the design of deployment automation
  • Solid understanding of application lifecycle process management
  • Advanced knowledge of application architectures (web, client-server, and mobile) and application monitoring techniques and approaches
  • Strong knowledge of Linux, JBoss, shell scripts, Apache, Mysql, configuration mangement, monitoring and TCP/IP protocols
  • Understanding of security best practices 
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work with very little supervision and to work well in a team environment
  • Highly motivated, enterprising, excellent team player, also able to work autonomously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Capable of enforcing processes and procedures
  • Manage security-related aspects of the tools infrastructure

Required Skills

  • 3+ years of experience with administrating DevOps Tools like Jenkins
  • 3+ years of experience administrator environment configuration tools like puppet
  • 3+ years of experience with administrating SaaS environments
  • 3+ year of OS System Administration (Linus, Windows)
  • 3+ years of experience in performance tuning

optimization

  • 5-10+ years background in IT (preferably in DevOps and Release Management)
  • Knowledge of DevOps technologies and frameworks
  • Knowledge of Agile Methodologies and principles
  • Knowledge of Cloud Technology and solutions
  • Knowledge of Quality Assurance procedures and processes
  • Unix/Linux shell scripting, Github, Cloudbees Jenkins, Jira, SonaQube, Sonartype
  • Deep Skills in Environment Configuration management tools like Puppet, Chef, Ansible
  • AWS (EC2, S3, API/CLI, VPC, IAM, ElastiCache), Windows Server Administration, Firewall, Shell scripting and automation of routine tasks, Clustering, Virtualization, Load Balancing
  • Experience working on multiple Operating Systems and platforms like Java, .net, Unix, MS
