Development Research Intern

The Centers for Families and Children (The Centers) is an organization dedicated to improving the lives of families in Cleveland; and every year we serve roughly 23,000 people in the Greater Cleveland area. Our team is composed of over 500 diverse and passionate professionals who are making a positive impact in the Cleveland community.

The Development Research Intern will work at our main administrative office within the Development and Government Relations department. S/he will support the Donor Relations Manager in providing strategic information resources to the department. The Development Research Intern will have the opportunity to experience the work of prospect research and nonprofit development and government relations strategies by supporting a department that raises over $3.5 million annually. S/he will carry out research on projects directed by the Donor Relations Manager, including individual donors, corporations and foundations. This is a unique opportunity for a student researcher to have a significant impact on The Centers’ fundraising and advocacy activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide research for assigned projects including corporate and foundation backgrounds, giving trends, and individual donor information.

• Use subscription databases and other search tools to find information relevant to impact areas, individuals, corporations or foundations.

• Map relationships among donors and prospects to help identify opportunities for The Centers to maximize fundraising potential.

• Analyze results of wealth and philanthropy screenings of donor database.

• Perform library research and data collection as needed.

• Receive training in Raiser’s Edge and assist in entering, maintaining and reporting gift and donor records within database.

• Additional duties as assigned to support development efforts.

Requirements

• Minimum 1-2 years of college majoring in Public Administration, Non-profit Management, Library Science, Business Administration, Communications, or related field.

  • Experience in or curiosity about nonprofit organizations and philanthropy.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

• Experience sourcing information from online and databases sources a plus, including (but not limited to) Lexis/Nexis, Guidestar, Foundation Center, ProQuest, JSTOR, etc.

• Strong analytical skills, including the ability to identify patterns in data and explain what those patterns mean.

  • Must be comfortable with learning new software if necessary.

• Ability to maintain confidential information.

• Attention to detail and accuracy are essential.

• Must be highly organized, able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

• Proactive, flexible and team player.

• Excellent interpersonal skills and effective oral and written communication skills required.

Location of Internship : The Centers for Families and Children, 4500 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44103

Time Commitment – Monday-Friday, 15-20 hours per week, flexible with school schedule
