Designer

Summary: Under the supervision of level 2 and 3 Designers and/or Project Engineers this position executes on preliminary and supplementary tasks related to engineering projects at our facilities including but not limited to: CAD drawings and renderings, bill of material checks and edits, instruction manual production, etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • This position requires training and close supervision by level 2 and 3 Designers and/or Project Engineers.
  • Creates simple mechanical drawings or plant layouts by reviewing models, sketches, descriptions, specifications, and supporting documents; conferring with Engineers and Designers. The finished product must be a professional drawing package that we can send to our shop or and outside supplier.
  • Prepares simple mechanical sketches and drawings by rendering sectional, auxiliary, and multi-views, sub-assemblies, pictorials, dimensions, and developments; producing two- and three-dimensional orthographic projections using computer aided design (CAD) and pictorial techniques; producing three-dimensional (3-D) models including 3-D and spherical coordinates.
  • Create the drawing number system based off of the project or work order numbers.
  • Requires training to understand the safety requirements necessary to protect the equipment’s operator.

  • Maintain project directories on the Engineering file storage file server.

  • Perform preliminary drawing check before the drawing is submitted to Engineer or the drawing check person.
  • Performs preliminary bill of material check before the Bill is submitted to the Engineer or the drawing check person.
  • Generate bill of materials for the Purchasing Department.
  • Produce two copies of the signed prints, both sets to Shop Manager.
  • Update red lines on a daily basis.
  • Produce two copies of as-built blue prints to be shipped with equipment to customer.
  • Produce instruction manual/parts book (as required) for equipment, review with Engineer, and ship with equipment.
  • Track hours used on a project versus the estimated hours and provide feedback the responsible Engineer.
  • Communicate drafting and design issues with Level 2 and 3 Designers and the responsible Engineer.
  • Communicate work load with the responsible Engineer

Qualifications:

  • Education: Pursuing AS or BS in Mechanical design discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • CAD and Drafting Skills, AutoCAD, Inventor.
  • Microsoft office (Word, Excel)
  • Experience: 0-3 years
  • Entry level position in terms of the complexity of work
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
