DINNERWARE DESIGNER

Gaia Group, USA – is seeking a high energy creative individual to work in a fast pace collaborative environment. Position is based in Hoffman Estates, IL

We are seeking a Designer who has an updated design aesthetic with the ability to see the needs of the market and has experience with the home product industry. Must be versatile and creative with the ability to design in a range of design aesthetics. Positive, ‘whatever it takes’ attitude that can gracefully handle the pressure of a fast pace start up environment where resources are constrained, you will be asked to wear multiple hats especially on days when it is all ‘hands on deck’.

Job Description

  • Support the Director of Trend and Product Development, by research, design and development of dinnerware collections from initial concept through approval.
  • Conceptualize, research, and explore, trends to create story boards for the development of each dinnerware collection.
  • Create presentation packages and product renderings.
  • Coordinate sample presentations and organize samples.
  • Own the development process through daily communication with the overseas Sourcing Team.
  • Create Specification packages and product comments.
  • Learn about evolving design and production processes and possibilities by visiting factories and attending tradeshows around the globe.
  • Ensure efficient workflow process by coordinating project schedules and help streamline development timelines with Director.
  • This is a multi-tasking position with an emphasis on details and meeting deadlines.
  • Engage in the ‘behind the scenes’ activities such as but not limited to: shipping and receiving of product samples, keeping stock room and show room organized/clean, set up as well as tear down of marketing & public relations events, and styling photoshoots.

Required Skills

  • 5+ years in hard home product design or illustration, art, surface design
  • BFA degree in design or equivalent art related field degree required
  • Maintain expert-level proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign
  • Excellent knowledge of design practices and procedures
  • Detail oriented, excellent time management skills, organization and multi-tasking, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
