Design & Creative Media Program Instructor

The Design & Creative Media (DCM) program at the Center for Technology, Essex is currently looking to hire a motivated, innovative individual with teaching and design industry experience as well as a wide range of technical and creative skills to teach in a full-day technical high school program for juniors and seniors. Candidate must be committed to technical education and to working with a diverse population of high school students.DCM is a two-year program that challenges the technical student to develop a diverse group of skills encompassing technology, craft and creative applied arts. Our hands-on approach to curriculum allows student to learn and practice skills while designing projects for multiple output (print, motion & screen). In the adjoining print production workshop, which includes a variety of printers, cutters and folders, students are able to see projects all the way through to production and finishing.The second year of DCM employs students in our not-for-profit, full-service design and print studio.

The Design Studio @ CTE enables students to practice skills present in todays ever-changing design and printing industries. Students maintain communication with their clients as they take the design from concept to print including all finishing aspects and delivery. This position is part of a team/job share with another .8 FTE instructor. Roles and Responsibilities: – Develop and teach design curriculum including, but not limited to: design elements & principles, page layout & composition, color theory, typography, copyright, vector & raster image creation, image manipulation, digital photography, motion design, logo design, packaging design, editorial design, printing, production, finishing, career and employability skills, presentation skills, postsecondary pathways- Collaborate with integrated academic instructors to revise, refine and implement English, math and art curricula- Collaborate with team members, parents and administration to support student learning and academic success for all students- Advise and mentor all students in the program, helping them develop transition plans for career and post-secondary pathways- Team with our Career Coordinator to connect students to industry through tours, job shadows, and internships- Work with an Advisory Board, made of professionals from industry and from post-secondary institutions, to create a vision for the program, ensure the program reflects changes and trends within the industry and manage an end-of year portfolio review process- Teach integrated dual enrollment content for various post-secondary art & design courses.- Develop and sustain articulation agreements with postsecondary institutions- Support the Design Studio with art direction, proofing, and supervision of student designers and the para-educator- Develop and maintain partnerships and clients from within the center, district and the community.- Maintain and manage web presence (currently a WordPress blog)- Act as program liaison representing DCM in a variety of local and statewide organizations (industry, design, academic)- Participate in center-wide initiatives and committees- Enhance options to expand student recruitment, track student visits, and manage retention efforts – Adhere to state & federal career & tech regulations and guidelinesThe position is 0.8 FTE with an excellent benefits package available including family medical and dental insurance; life insurance; access to professional development funds; and paid leaves.Minimum Requirements to apply: associates degree with a minimum of fours years of industry experience (or equivelent education and experience); ability and willingness to complete the VTC Career and Technical Education Teacher Preparation program in order to obtain the required VT Teaching License.
