Database Administrator

Administers, maintains, develops and implements policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the county database systems. Implements data models and database designs, data access and table maintenance codes; resolves database performance issues, database capacity issues, replication, and other distributed data issues. The database administrator should be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. The DBA works under general supervision and reports to the Operations Team Lead.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The following duties are normal for this classification. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Proactively monitors, optimizes and maintain the availability of the database systems within the enterprise.
  • Establishes backup and restore procedures of all critical databases within Lucas County.
  • Ensures integrity and security of all data backups.
  • Resolves database capacity, replication, and response issues.
  • Establishes policies and procedures relating to database design, data access, and table maintenance.
  • Support project managers, developers and end users to define systems goals, and identify and resolve systems/database issues/needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Experience in Database Administration: Primarily Microsoft SQL Server. Oracle, Informix, DB2.
  • Experience in Microsoft SQL Server script writing, stored procedures, SQL report services, etc.
  • Experience scripting in PowerShell, Batch, Python, etc.
  • Experience in Microsoft Enterprise Systems Administration.
  • Server administration knowledge including VMware virtualization technologies.
  • Demonstrate analytical, problem-solving, written and oral communication skills, good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate ideas to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment and conduct research into systems issues.
  • Demonstrate the ability to approach challenges in a logical and efficient manner.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed with a keen attention to detail and strong customer service orientation.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
