Position Summary

The Database Administrator (DBA) will be part of the IT Data Services Team and will be responsible for the enhancement and support of all McLeod Software database products, both internal and external. The Database Administrator will consult with customers regarding the database best practices required to implement IT solutions that meet their business unit requirements. The DBA is responsible for design and development of new data related products and services. This position is highly technical in nature and includes dialogue of the technical model for an end to end blueprint of a custom based IT solution from inception to completion with a heavy emphasis on the data structure and performance.

  • Supports all data products, both internal and external.
  • Identifies database requirements; analyzing applications, programming, and operations; evaluating existing systems and designing proposed systems.
  • Works closely with the Systems and Infrastructure teams to identify issues and create innovative solutions to problems that arise.
  • Recommends solutions by defining database physical structure and functional capabilities, database security, data back-up, and recovery specifications.
  • Installs revised or new IT solutions by proposing specifications and flowcharts; recommending optimum access techniques; coordinating installation requirements.
  • Monitors performance and managing parameters to provide fast query responses to front-end users and back-end processes.
  • Maps the logical design for planned databases.
  • Performs database development using a wide range of tools including SSIS, SSAS, T-SQL, PL-SQL.
  • Supports engagement managers and developers/vendors in implementation phases of the McLeod Solutions in such areas of application development, troubleshooting, and testing.
  • Prepares and presents design proposals to clients.
  • Produces detailed technical drawings.
  • Provides database performance administration and guidance.

Position Requirements:

  • Associates or Bachelors degree strongly preferred, or education and equivalent work experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of one or more SQL based database system (SQL Server, Oracle, DB2)
  • Microsoft SQL, Oracle, DB2 certifications are strongly preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required

Develops, implements, administers, and maintains policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the company database. Implements data models, database designs, data access and table maintenance codes. Resolves database performance and capacity issues, and replication and other distributed data issues. May require a bachelor’s degree in a related area and with eight or more years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with expert concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.

Minimum of 9-10 years experience as a z/OS DB2 Database Administrator

Other desirable experience is as follows:

Strong DB2-z/OS

Working knowledge of DB2 LUW (Linux, Unix, and Windows)

Knowledge of SQL construction and optimization

Knowledge of OMVS, MVS, CICS, JCL, Cobol, Cobol source code migration, compile and bind, REXX, and CLIST utilities in a DB2 Z/OS environment

Experience with database connectivity to DB2 z/OS from SQL-Server, Oracle, Websphere, Cold fusion, Business Objects, DB2-LUW, MS-Access, Toad or others

Web services construction, implementation and migration within a Z/OS environment running CICS and DB2

Familiarity with performance and exception monitoring tools such as CA Detector, Omegamon for DB2, Omegamon for CICS

Experience with IBM DB2 for Z/OS utilities for LOAD, REORG, COPY, RESTORE, UNLOAD, CHECK DATA

Experience and Knowledge of:

Methods and procedures for designing, developing, monitoring and maintaining databases

Tools for constructing database structures

Experience determining efficient design of data structures and software applications

AIX security, scripting and monitoring experience

Information systems architecture

Experience identifying scope and managing complexity of projects

Experience in de-identifying data and obfuscation

Experience in source code management

Experience with naming standards
