We are looking for a creative, self-motivated, highly numerically skilled person for a Data Scientist position in the Kantar Innovation Global Data Science team. This person will be involved in a variety of advanced data and infrastructure initiatives which would include social media scraping and modelling, time series analysis, text mining, data integration and machine learning. In addition, they would work on the systems behind these applications by interfacing with APIs, contributing to platform development at scale, and building data visualizations, amongst other things.

The Kantar Innovation team supports a several companies within Kantar, including Kantar TNS, Kantar Millward Brown, Kantar Added Value and Kantar Vermeer. We use a variety of data sources to help our clients make decisions, including surveys, social media, various behavioural data sources, neuroscience and more. KEY OUTCOMES

  • Data manipulation and preparation into format required for further work.
  • Statistical analysis and management of data.
  • Helping to develop systems to support methodologies at scale.
  • Collaborative work with a multi-functional team (operations, IT and researchers) to develop scalable processes and protocols for executing “big data”- and “AI”-powered solutions.

  • Keeping abreast of developments within the industry and academic institutions & recommending new techniques/software for use within the company.

CAPABILITIES STATEMENT

  • Completed degree in Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Actuarial Sciences, engineering (or an equivalent qualification with a quantitative- or computer-related background) or at least 1-2 years’ experience in a data science role.
  • Strong computing and programming skills (coding in Python or “R”) and the desire to learn new statistical techniques. You need you to know what to do given a bunch of numbers.
  • Experience working with large datasets / databases (SQL or similar).
  • Interest in creating and deploying apps and tools on the cloud for everyone to use. This might mean a bit of dev ops. Once you worked out the methods, we need you to be able to help others reuse your methods, although the broader team does include dev ops specialists.
  • Good communication skills. The ability to communicate difficult concepts to non-specialists efficiently is very important. We need you to show the results in a way that even your boss may understand them.
  • Team player. The team is spread across offices all over the world (South Africa, Germany, UK, Mexico, etc.) and sometimes work is done with teams in other regions and time zones. We need you to work with somebody you have never met and who is far away, and who might not have had their morning coffee yet.
