The Data Scientist will work on challenging internal business, productivity, and enablement use cases with the primary objective to derive predictive insights that lead to achieving business value for Cerner associates and our clients. We pride ourselves on developing innovative solutions in the areas of enterprise search and artificial intelligence in multiple contexts. Given the problem space, there will be a heavier focus on unstructured and natural language text analysis that will be correlated to structured data signals to predict quantitative business value, leading indicators, search relevancy models, and personalized associate and client digital assistant experiences. Strong problem-solving skills, self-starter, solid written/verbal communication, motivation to achieve results, ability to quickly learn, team attitude, and flexibility/adaptability characterize the attributes that we value for filling this position.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Analytics, Biostatistics, Applied Mathematics, Software Engineering or related field or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • At least 3 years of Data mining, quantitative analysis, and/or statistical modeling including predictive performance and algorithm optimization work experience
  • At least 3 years of Statistical programming and applied programming work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of Machine learning methods and the principles of visually encoding data work experience.
  • Work or research experience in the practical application of statistical learning algorithms across regression, classification, supervised modeling techniques, and unsupervised problems, to include more modern machine learning, linear, and non-linear techniques (trees, neural networks and extensions into deep learning, etc.)
  • Demonstrated programming skill in at least one language like R, Python, Scala, Java, C#, etc. using available statistical and machine learning
  • Experience in working on or with engineering teams and tools including scalable cloud-based data science environments such as OpenStack, Azure, or AWS
  • Experience rapidly prototyping, evaluating, and gathering feedback to iterate toward an acceptable business outcome
  • Experience with enterprise search, artificial intelligence, natural language, or similar that heavily leverages entity extraction, determining intents, content classification etc. from unstructured text
  • Work or research experience with modern compute and storage approaches such as Spark or Hadoop in cloud brokered environments like Azure, AWS, etc. or on-premise configurations
  • Experience obtaining data from any manner of source: databases (SQL and NoSQL/document such as MongoDB, Couchbase, Cassandra, etc.), APIs, scraping, etc.

Expectations

  • Willing to work additional or irregular hours as needed and allowed by local regulations
  • Work in accordance with corporate and organization security policies and procedures, understand personal role in safeguarding corporate and client assets, and take appropriate action to prevent and report any compromises of security within scope of position
  • Although travel not anticipated, must be willing to travel up to 20% as needed
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned
