Data Science Intern

Urbint is building a cutting-edge data ingestion and machine learning pipelines to expose the hidden intelligence within urban data. We are a team of close-knit, talented engineers and urban data nerds who obsess over problem solving, code quality, and workflow. This position reports to the Principal Machine Learning Engineer and will be involved in exploring open data, researching new machine learning technologies, and implementing data visualization tools.

You will work closely with a nimble, highly skilled team to:
Research, acquire, and integrate open data, spatial data, customer data, and third party data into our data structure

Perform data quality assessments for accuracy and completeness – identify missing elements and better inform our data models

Explore machine learning modeling techniques

Assess, support, and update procedures for continuous improvement of data quality and process efficiency

Own projects from start to finish that require intensive attention to detail to ensure successful completion

Provide ad-hoc support to machine learning engineering team

Requirements

Graduate OR postgraduate degree or coursework in a quantitative or related field

A firm understanding of urban data, urban planning, and land use concepts

Experience with open data or publicly available APIs

A keen curiosity to explore and uncover interesting and new datasets

Obsess over detail and quality of product

Ability to work in a fast environment with changing priorities

Strong technical written and verbal skills

Experience using:
A scripted language such as R or Python

Data visualization tools

Machine learning and feature pruning

Knowledge of mapping or GIS software and a complete command of Microsoft Excel
