Data Science Analyst

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Data Science Analyst conducts data driven activities for the operational divisions, including developing and distributing reports and dashboards, interpreting data, communicating results and making recommendations. Working closely with Information Technology staff and third party vendors the Data Science Analyst performs requirements definition, dashboard development, project management, data analysis and data quality and report testing. The Data Science Analyst provides direction and education on analytical results to help staff understand key performance indicators and assist in identifying areas of opportunities for improvement.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The Data Science Analyst will report to the Chief Operating Officer (COO). The Data Science Analyst will have a dotted line reporting relationship to the Vice President, Information Technology and work closely with the operational administrators and department heads, as well as corporate staff in Finance, IT and Human Resources.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work with program and departmental staff to identify requirements for reporting and / or business intelligence tools.
• Coordinate the building of systems, database infrastructure and data warehouses.
• Maintains Master Patient Index and monitors integrity of data.
• Conduct preliminary data analysis to assess the nature of data and further analysis to extract meaningful data.
• Perform data mining and use querying languages (for e.g. SQL).
• Represent data through graphs, charts and other representational techniques.
• Model data through different data modeling techniques.
• Identify new opportunities for process improvement.
• Make data projections and advice the relevant stakeholders.
• Design, develop, and implement complex reports and analytics.
• Interact with various stakeholders to understand their business needs, communicate project status and develop relationships to ensure satisfaction.
• Expertly use tools and analytics to provide insight and make recommendations.
• Leverage advanced statistical analysis methods to create insightful recommendations and conclusions that you effectively communicate to your stakeholders.
• Present your finding through meetings, presentations, workshops and seminars.
• Identify necessary data and methodologies; collect, integrate, analyze and interpret data.
• Act as liaison/analyst for internal stakeholders, understand their needs and translate them into reporting and analytic solutions.
• Act as liaison to third party vendor providing data warehouse software as a service and dashboard and report development.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of BA/BS in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems Engineering or Mathematics or Engineering or related field or equivalent experience, Masters Degree preferred.
• Strong math and statistical analysis skills are needed.
• Employs curiosity and creativity in approaching business and clinical problem solving.
• At least 2 to 5 years of analytics development experience for a health provider, health plan or accountable care organization including either:

• Experience working in a health plan or consulting
• Experience working in healthcare provider analytics
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and Business Intelligence products (Tableau, SAP, Microsoft Power Bi, Thought spot etc.)
• Excellent oral and writing skills; ability to communicate effectively with varying audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to articulate goals, plan and implement processes to achieve those goals and meet deadlines.
• Advanced interpersonal (e.g., mediating, mentoring, teaching) skills required to service internal clients effectively.
• Self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to work independently, and to exercise independent judgment in developing complex techniques or programs in a dynamic environment.
