Data Associate

After 11 years, The Financial Clinic has demonstrated a “gold standard” model for building financial security for working poor families. The Financial Clinic is looking for a Data Associate who is excited to support its well-established services in New York City and its national expansion. Working closely with the Research & Policy and Services Departments, the Data Associate provides programmatic and administrative support for the Department leads and the Chief Program Officer. He or she should have quantitative analytical skills and be detail- oriented enough to complete research and data-associated tasks. In addition, the Data Associate will be supporting the Clinic’s lasting change work including policy, advocacy, and communications. The Data Associate must be creative and enjoy working within a small but growing staff of 35 that is mission- and results-driven.

The ideal individual will have the ability to exercise good judgment and maintain professionalism in a variety of situations, with strong written and verbal communication, administrative, and organizational skills, and the ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities. The Data Associate must be able to work under pressure at times to handle a variety of priorities and requests.

Requirements:
Reporting to the Clinic’s Chief Program Officer, the Data Associate will have the following responsibilities:

Data & Evaluation

  • Provide administrative and technical supports for the Assistant Director of Research and Policy with respect to ongoing evaluations and data analysis.
  • Translate spreadsheets of information into weekly progress reports and corresponding pivot charts/tables. Build reports and analyze data in multiple data systems: Efforts to Outcomes (SAP Web Intelligence), Change Machine (Salesforce), TaxWise, Google Analytics.
  • Perform weekly data queries to support financial coaching staff and track contract achievement.
  • Draft periodic narrative reports for funding partners’ contracts.
  • Obtain stats for funding proposals.

Direct Services and Ecosystem Supports:

  • Run reports to track progress of the Clinic’s financial coaching work.
  • Design data reports to gauge ecosystem’s effectiveness, and determine an optimal reporting schedule.
  • Visit potential ecosystem sites to determine their suitability for financial coaching.
  • Meet with ecosystem partners to discuss practicalities such as customer enrollment and referral flow.

Writing

  • Draft internal documents such as memoranda, environmental scans, best practice papers, and marketing materials.
  • Communicate with external partners through email.
  • Assist senior staff with public-facing materials such as PowerPoint presentations.

Partner Management

  • Work closely with the Clinic’s Advisory Groups and staff to ensure successful periodic phone calls and other events.
  • Become the day-to-day point of contact for partner organizations for policy priorities.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including staff and external site partners.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; clear writing skills are especially valuable.
  • Proven analytical and reasoning abilities.
  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability.
  • Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective in the face of ambiguity.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.
  • Dedication to and interest in the Clinic’s mission to build financial security for working poor Americans.

Software Qualifications

  • Experience working with Asana or a similar project management application.
  • Extensive Microsoft Excel expertise beyond the ability to perform basic formula functions and capacity to create pivot tables/charts. Ideally, past experience with VBA, sumproduct formulas, index match formulas, and vlookups.
  • Experience with Stata cleaning data sets, creating variables, and merging data sets.
  • Familiarity with Python and SQL ideal but not required. Must be interested in learning and becoming proficient in both with in 6 months of start date.
  • Proficient in Salesforce with experience building reports, report types, dashboards, and using process builders or possess an understanding of relational databases or other CRM Tools.
  • Experience with Tableau ideal but not required.
  • Proficient/Familiar with Google Documents; Google Calendar; Microsoft Office; Adobe Acrobat; and Social Media web platforms.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required, ideally degree is in Economics, Statistics, Math, Business/Finance or policy-related fields.
  • Master’s Degree a plus.
  • One year in a professional environment, preferably in a non-profit organization, is preferred but not required.
