Background: The BMDS Integration Group supports the Missile Defense Agency in the development, deployment, testing, and enhancement of the Ballistic Missile Defense System. This Group performs detailed system and component engineering, flight and ground test analysis, and advanced capability development in collaboration with the contractors and government program offices that are building the missile defense elements and components. This requisition seeks a data analyst who will be tasked with the analysis of radar data to understand the real-world ballistic missile threat as well as to evaluate BMD System performance following flight tests.

Assignment:

  • 1. Provide support for discrimination testbeds, including the SM-3 (IB, IIA and future systems) and applicable RF systems.
  • 2. Development, testing, and assessment of discrimination algorithms and fusion logic.
  • 3. Run simulations and conduct flight test data analysis using discrimination framework to quantify system performance.
  • Required Experience, Skills and Qualifications

    • Candidate must have a PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related technical discipline with 5 years minimum experience. Alternatively, a MS degree and 8 years of experience will suffice.
    • Candidate will have experience with radar systems, signal processing, airborne or communications systems, or related areas are desirable.
    • Candidate will have specific programming experience in required computer language will be specified by the Lab as needs arise. Programming languages commonly utilized include, but are not limited to; C/C++, Java, .NET, Fortran, PV-Wave, Perl, MATLAB and Kourne shall scripting. Hardware Platforms include IBM, MAC, VAX, and SUN. Operating systems include Solaris, Linux (including Red Ht, CentOS, Ubuntu), VMS/VAX, MacOSX, Microsoft and UNIX (including HP-UX, AIX).
    • Candidate must be motivated self-starters, able to work individually, or within a group to achieve program goals and objectives, under the direction of the technical project manager. P
    • Candidate with problem solving ability is critical. Activities will include programming, data reduction and analysis, data presentation in graphic form, etc.
    • Additionally, the candidate should have the following skills/knowledge:
      • o High level of proficiency in MATLAB.
      • o Developing and evaluating models and simulations.
      • o Algorithm development, testing, and evaluation.
      • o Knowledge of machine learning concepts and experience applying those concepts to various types of data sets.

    Preferred Experience, Skills and Qualifications

    • Candidate should have experience working with both simulation data and experimental data collections.
    • Candidate should have familiarity with MDA simulations.
    • Candidate should have experience creating interfaces between different types of simulation frameworks.
    • Cadidate should have experience with different types of sensor data and simulations.

    Limited travel may be required.

    MUST BE U.S. CITIZEN – Personnel possessing an active SECRET clearance desired. All personnel must successfully pass a Commercial Background Investigation (CBI) and obtain a DoD Interim Secret Clearance.
