Corporate Counsel, AWS Public Sector

Amazon’s Legal Department is looking for a highly motivated and talented public sector lawyer to be based in Arlington, Virginia supporting Amazon Web Services (AWS), as well as other Amazon businesses selling to public sector customers in the United States and internationally (with an emphasis on supporting sales to United States federal civilian agencies, non-profits, and non-governmental organizations). AWS is at the forefront of the “cloud” computing industry providing IT infrastructure services such as on-demand compute capacity, storage, content delivery, database services, browsers, and more to private and public sector customers.

The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing, negotiating, and drafting a wide range of technology licensing contracts and subcontracts with public and private sector customers in the United States and abroad, including teaming agreements, reseller agreements, direct agreements, and bid proposal responses. Although this position may involve supporting all types of public sector transactions, there will be an emphasis on supporting transactions involving United States federal civilian agencies, non-profits, and non-governmental organizations. The candidate will also support compliance with United States and international government contracting laws, rules, and regulations, and will create and train employees on company policies related to government contracting. The candidate will work directly with the business, providing day-to-day advice for senior executives and other business members on government contracting issues, resolving issues that arise in existing relationships, and handling pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries. A successful candidate should be proactive, entrepreneurial, enjoy working hard and being challenged, have strong written and oral communication skills, demonstrate sound and pragmatic judgment in ambiguous situations, and have a healthy sense of humor.

This position will be based in Arlington, Virginia.

Basic Qualifications

• Juris Doctor and membership in good standing of at least one state bar
• 4+ years of public sector focused transactional legal experience including specific experience with procurements conducted by United States state and local governments and educational institutions
• Previous work experience in a law firm or as an in-house public sector attorney
• Knowledge of U.S. federal procurement laws, rules, and regulations for commercial items contracting, Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS)

Preferred Qualifications

• In-house experience at a technology or internet company
• Familiar with IT infrastructure, outsourcing, telecommunications or cloud computing services
• Experience supporting transactions involving United States federal civilian agencies, non-profits, and non-governmental organizations
